A presentation and discussion of the pilot project “Labour Market Readiness Index,” initiated by the State Employment Agency under the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Population, was held at Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC).

The event was attended by the delegation headed by Mr. Sadig Aliyev, Chairman of the Board of the State Employment Agency, as well as UNEC Rector Professor Adalat Muradov and structural heads of the university. In his opening remarks, Professor Muradov emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation between UNEC and the Agency, highlighted ongoing efforts in implementing the non-academic transcript, and discussed the upcoming objectives. He underscored the significance of the “Labour Market Readiness Index,” being introduced for the first time in the country, as a tool designed to assess students’ diverse skill sets.

In his address, Mr. Sadig Aliyev noted that UNEC is a forward-thinking and partnership-oriented university, and he provided detailed information about the new initiative. He explained that the “Labour Market Readiness Index” aims to evaluate students’ non-academic activities, ensure a balance between various competencies, and offer support for their development. The approach reflects a modern understanding that, in addition to knowledge, practical skills are key indicators of success in today’s labour market. Mr. Aliyev also announced that the project will initially be implemented within UNEC’s “Finance” program.

Mr. Ali Gurbanli, Head of the Career Planning Department at the Agency, delivered a presentation outlining the structure, primary objectives, evaluation criteria, and theoretical underpinnings of the project. He stated that the “Labour Market Readiness Index” was developed based on the experience of more than ten internationally recognized universities and represents a significant innovation in adapting to the evolving labour market. Based on the project’s results, students will receive personalized recommendations for their individual development.

Following the presentation, the project was discussed with UNEC’s structural leaders, and a decision was made to implement it as a pilot at the university.
