In keeping with this tradition, a special commemoration ceremony was held at the UNEC faculty of Digital Economics on September 27th, Remembrance Day.
The event was attended by UNEC faculty, students, and most poignantly, the parents of the university’s martyred alumni of the Patriotic war: Mazdak Eyvazli and Abil Jabizada. The ceremony began with the national anthem, a moment of silence in honor of the martyrs, and a video tribute to their lives.
Associate professor Elman Jafarov, dean of the faculty of Digital Economics, emphasized that the UNEC community holds the memory of its martyrs in the highest regard and considers their parents to be the most cherished and valued members of the UNEC family. He highlighted the martyrs’ brief but meaningful lives as a profound example of patriotism and heroism for the youth.
The event underscored the deep patriotism and love for their nation and people that defined the martyrs. It was revealed that since both Mazdak Eyvazli and Abil Jabizada were born on February 26th the day of the Khojaly tragedy they never celebrated their birthdays, instead carrying the pain of that day in their hearts.
Both young men volunteered to defend their homeland at the outset of the Patriotic war and fought with immense courage. Mazdak Eyvazli was heroically martyred during the battles for the liberation of Fuzuli and was posthumously awarded the “For the Motherland,” “For the liberation of Khojavend,” and “For the liberation of Fuzuli” medals. Abil Jabizada ascended to the pinnacle of martyrdom while fighting valiantly in the direction of Zoghalbulag village in the Khojavend region. He was posthumously honored with the “For the Motherland,” “For the liberation of Jabrayil,” and “For the liberation of Fuzuli” medals.
The most emotional and symbolic moment of the event was the planting of Plane trees (Khan chinar) in the courtyard of the academic building where the martyrs once studied. The tree-planting ceremony, attended by the martyrs’ parents, was filled with poignant emotions.
These newly planted trees are seen as a living symbol of UNEC’s profound respect for its fallen graduates. They signify that the immortal souls of the martyrs have taken root at UNEC and will live on in this institution of learning forever. It was affirmed that each branch of these trees will stand as a testament to the heroic history the martyrs wrote, while their deep roots will serve as a permanent marker of their unwavering connection to the homeland.
