Information about the Faculty

Development of highly skilled specialists in Commodity Research has been started approximately from the 30s. A personnel training was operated under the different titles such as Trade-Cooperative, Consumer Cooperation, Soviet Trade, Social Economics and Azerbaijan People’s Economy. One of the 6 faculties (Planning-Economics, Finance-Economics, Credit-Economics, Accounting of People’s Economy and Law) existing in the 30s after the establishment of AIPE named after K.Marx as a result of the combination of some institutes. Two departments- the Department of “Commodity Research” and “Economic Administration and Techniques of the Soviet Trade” performed in the faculty in those years. In that period a senior teacher A.U.Guliyev headed the Department of “Commodity Research”. Later the major of Commodity Research was the integral part the Faculty of Trade- economics.

In 1959, the AIPE was combined with ASU. In 1962 the Faculty of “Commodity Research” was established in ASU. In fact, the establishment of this faculty in ASU led to the creation of the big training unit in General Economy and Commodity Research. In early years the Faculty of Commodity Research was run by Prof. SoltanSalmanov, but later by Prof. Alasger Gasimov.

The independence of AIPE was abolished in 1987, and it became Baku branch of the LNIE named after N.A.Voznesenski. In 1990 the major of Commodity Research was separated from the content of the BB of the LNIE and started its performance as Baku Faculty of Commodity Research of Azerbaijan Technological Institute since the same year. In 1992 the Faculty became Baku Branch of Azerbaijan Technological Institute. The branch performed its activities as Baku Institute of Commodity Research and Commerce from September 1 1993 to June 13 2000. The Institute was led by Professor A.P.Hasanov in those years.

Baku Institute of Commodity Research and Commerce was combined with Azerbaijan State Institute of Economics by the Presidential Decree of the Republic of Azerbaijan on June 13 2000 and Azerbaijan State University of Economics was established as a result. Despite of the abolishing the Institute, the function of its all faculties, departments, units and sections was maintained as a great training unite in Technical and Technological majors of the University of Economics. The unit combined 4 faculties and 17 departments in the content.

In November of 2004 many parallel faculties and departments were combined with the relevant structural units of the university and became two faculties: the Faculties of “Commodity Research” and “Technology and Design”.
