Professor Garib Murshudov of the University of Cambridge, Head of the Computational Structural Biology Group of the Medical Research Council (MRC) Laboratory of Molecular Biology and a Distinguished Scientist, held a meeting with the Rector of UNEC, Professor Adalat Muradov, and a group of young researchers of the university.
Opening the meeting, Rector Professor Adalat Muradov welcomed the guest and noted that such engagements, aimed at improving the organization of scientific research, enhancing its effectiveness, and promoting applied studies, play a significant role in broadening the scientific perspectives of young scholars. The Rector underscored that Professor Garib Murshudov is one of the eminent scientists whose substantial contributions have advanced the development of science in Azerbaijan and who is regarded with great esteem in the country.
Delivering a presentation entitled “Three-Dimensional Structure of Proteins,” Professor Murshudov provided a comprehensive overview of structural biology, Bayes’ theorem, and the principal stages of protein structure determination. He also addressed the application of artificial intelligence in the analysis of protein structures, commenting on current developments in the field and future research prospects. The professor further emphasized the importance of the conditions and opportunities created at UNEC for the development of young researchers.
The meeting concluded with a question-and-answer session, during which young researchers received responses to their inquiries, followed by discussions on pressing scientific issues.
