About department

Department of “Physics and Chemistry” was created on the basis of the departments “Physics” and “Chemistry” chairs. Department of “Chemistry” was one of the oldest chairs of the University of Economics. After closing the department of “Commodity”, “Chemistry” stopped working for some time and in 1990 restored its activity after the establishment of the Baku faculty of the Azerbaijan Technological Institute. It had been operating in the content of the Commodity and Commercial Institute since May 1995 and has been included in the Economic University since June 2000 and is performing under the Faculty Technology and Design.

In the years of 1995-2009, the department of Physics was headed by member of ANAS, doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, prof. Sh.Abdinov, and the department of “Chemistry” by professor R.C.Goyushov. On September 2, 2009, the Department of Physics and Chemistry was established on the basis of the Departments of Physics and Chemistry. Head of the department was appointed prof. R.C.Goyushov. Since 2011 the chair is run by R.M. Rzayev.

The chair conducts scientific research on the problem of semiconductor materials for electronic refrigerators and photocells used in infrared opt electric converters. High-performance materials have been obtained by studying the electrical and heat parameters of the mono crystals of the A3 B6 layered structure and the B1-Sb solid-state extrusion samples in the range of wide-temperature, electrical and magnetic fields, which can also be used to produce useful electronic devices.

Results achieved during fulfillment of scientific-research works in the department are regularly published in the leading scientific journals of Poland, Germany, Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and France and are reported in the international, interstate and Republican scientific conferences. Department has closely scientific and practical relations with scientific centres of above mentioned and some other countries (“Orion” Scientific-Production Association- Moscow city; Institute of Physics and Technology named after A.F.Ioffe – St.Petersbug; “Kvars” plant – Ukraine and etc.).

6 textbooks, 8 training facilities, 10 methodical instructions and more than 400 scientific articles were written by the staff of the department to improve the organization of teaching. Members of the department have about 15 certificates of authorship, 3 of them are patented in foreign countries.
