UNEC Scholars in Europe: Academic Visits in Four Countries, New Partnerships

06 JANUARY 2026 | VIEWS:

The scientific activities of UNEC scholars have continued at leading universities across Europe.

Thus, six researchers from the university undertook scientific visits to prestigious higher education institutions in Belgium, Germany, Italy, and Turkey. Conducting research in various fields, the scholars laid the foundation for new collaborations and reached agreements on joint scientific activities.

UNEC scholars’ nanoscale materials studied in Belgium’s advanced laboratories

As part of a scientific visit to Ghent University in Belgium, UNEC Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation, Professor Rovnag Rzayev, and Head of the Department of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Associate Professor Tural Naghiyev, held important meetings aimed at expanding inter-university cooperation.

During the visit, next-generation nanoscale materials developed at UNEC were studied using Ghent University’s advanced laboratory facilities, and their scientific and applied potential was assessed.

As a result of the meetings, long-term prospects for scientific cooperation between the parties were identified. Within the framework of the collaboration, agreements were reached on preparing a number of joint scientific articles by 2026, as well as ensuring broader participation of Ghent University scholars in international scientific conferences to be held at UNEC.

From artificial intelligence to carbon emissions: the German experience

UNEC research lecturer, PhD in Economics Hasraddin Guliyev, undertook a three-week scientific visit to the prestigious Friedrich-Alexander University in Germany. Within the scope of the visit, he became acquainted with research conducted at the university’s Business School and studied modern approaches to the circular economy and the economic impacts of artificial intelligence.

During the visit, in-depth discussions were held on the database created in Germany for measuring carbon emissions, carbon tax mechanisms, and the impact of artificial intelligence on the labor market. As a result, an agreement was reached between UNEC and Friedrich-Alexander University to conduct joint scientific research, and the publication of a joint article examining the impact of artificial intelligence on unemployment is planned for 2026.

Energy and macroeconomic research in Italy

Associate Professor Sugra Humbatova from the Department of Economics and Associate Professor Vusala Teymurova from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics conducted research for one month at the Università degli Studi della Campania Luigi Vanvitelli in Italy.

Within the framework of the research, Azerbaijan–Italy energy relations and the impact of oil price volatility in the global oil market on macroeconomic indicators were analyzed. The research results are planned to be published in a Scopus-indexed journal. UNEC scholars also participated in an international conference held at another higher education institution in Italy.

Research on new-generation chemical compounds in Turkey

Associate Professor Ayten Niyazova from the Department of Engineering and Applied Sciences undertook a scientific visit to Yıldız Technical University in Turkey, where she studied two new chemical compounds synthesized at UNEC in modern laboratories.

During the research, the internal structure, stability, and interactions of the substances were examined, and prospects for their future scientific and practical applications were identified. Based on these studies, the publication of an article in an international scientific journal is planned. Within the framework of the visit, agreements were also reached on joint scientific projects between UNEC and Yıldız Technical University.
