Mikhail Hamidov was born on December 18, 1983, in Potsdam, East Germany, into a military family. From 1991 to 1998, he attended Surakhani district’s secondary school No. 278, and from 1998 to 2001, he studied at the school-lyceum No. 72 in Sabunchu district. In 2001, he enrolled in the Azerbaijan Higher Military Academy named after Heydar Aliyev, graduating in 2005. Following his graduation, he served as an intelligence officer in the Special Forces with the rank of lieutenant. After four years, in 2009, he retired from the Azerbaijani Armed Forces at his request with the rank of senior lieutenant. He was fluent in Russian, English, and Armenian.
From 2013 to 2015, Mikhail pursued a Master’s in Business Administration at the Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC). After leaving the military, he held several high-ranking positions.
On September 27, 2020, when the Patriotic War began, Mikhail Hamidov, a reserve senior lieutenant, volunteered to join the front lines. He fought in the battles for the liberation of Fuzuli and played a crucial role in securing several strategic enemy positions. Known as “Mikhaylo” among his comrades, he was martyred on October 23 during the Fuzuli offensive. He was laid to rest at the II Alley of Honor in Baku.
Following his death, Mikhail Hamidov was posthumously awarded the 3rd Degree “For Service to the Fatherland” Order, as well as the “For the Motherland,” “For Bravery,” “For the Liberation of Fuzuli,” and “90th Anniversary of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan (1918-2008)” Jubilee Medals by decree of the President of Azerbaijan.
He is survived by his wife and three children.
