About the Chair
In order to manage effectively and organize teaching at the University, the chairs of “Informatics” and the “Informatics for Economics and Technologies” were abolished according to the Decision No.534/3/2018 of the Scientific Council of the University of Economics dated July 6, 2018, and from that date on the basis of these chairs was established the chair of “Digital Economy and ICT”.
Department of “Informatics economy and technologies”. The chair initially named “Information Technologies in the World Economy” has been performing since July 2002. It was renamed the department of “Information Economy” since November 2004 and has been operating as the Chair of “Information Economy and Technologies” since 2009.
Academician Ali Abbasov is the founder and Head of the Department. Academician Ali Abbasov is a world- famous scholar in Information Technologies. He is one of the establishers of scientific school of Information- Telecommunication. He occupied the position of the Rector of our University in the years of 2000-2004 and the Minister of Communication and Higher Technologies within 2004-2014.
Currently, Undergraduate Program in 050655- “Information Technologies” and Graduate Programs in 060509- “Computer Sciences” in “Mathematical and Information Provision of Economic Activity” and “Information Technologies of the Management” are implemented in the Chair.
31 disciplines on undergraduate level and 10 disciplines on graduate level are taught by the staff of the department. Teaching of two subjects from them- “Information Economy” and “Information-communication Technologies” are intended for the undergraduate students of economic profile and the other two- “Information Systems in the World Economy” and “Electronic Commerce” for some economy- oriented graduate students.
The major directions of activity which are intended to be realized in the current academic year are defined at the department. Lectures, workshops and laboratory classes taught on both undergraduate and graduate levels are conducted by means of the up-to-date training methods. Special attention to the affairs of the preparation of educational programs, methodical instructions, textbooks and textbooks on subjects taught at the department, scientific research work, involvement of students in scientific researches, management of these works, and close relationship with the Student Scientific Society to increase the activity of the selected leader for the supervision and support of students’ scientific-research works is rendered by the department.
There is a joint participation of lecturers in the preparation of lecture texts and presentations, teaching questions and tests on each topic of the subject curricula taught at the department. At the instruction of the university administration, employees of the department are involved in the implementation of initiatives such as textbooks, textbooks and teaching methodological literature, as well as discussing dissertation works by other bidders.
Experiences of separate departments of the higher education institutions performing in our republic and abroad and the academic staff are studied and promoted by the chair. To study leading experiences of different manufacturers and organizations the arrangement of contacts with various institutions and building relations with them are intended. To assist pedagogical experience to young teachers who started their new activity, the department’s employees organize meetings with scientists, scientific seminars and meetings with scientists in accordance with the direction of the department, scientific knowledge dissemination and distribution, scientific-pedagogical staff of the department, their attendance in the international scientific conference and international exchange programs.
“Department of Informatics”. The Informatics Department was established under the name “Processing of economic information with machinery” in 1977. In different years the Department was renamed in line with the development of the informatics science. He dealt with the reparation of high-qualified specialists as a specialized department over the past years. The Department was directed by assistant professor V.M.Bayramov, assistant professor .A.F.Huseynov, professor .Y.R.Abdullayev, professor R.A.Balayev over the past period
