UN Deputy Secretary General at UNEC
UN Deputy Secretary General and the Executive Secretary of UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific Ms. Shamshad Akhtar (UNESCAP) has visited Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC).
UNEC Rector, Professor Adalat Muradov informed the participants about the University in detail during the session attended by Sh.Akhtar. He said that UNEC – the biggest university of economic profile of the Caucasus is the only higher education institution to have the branch abroad.
Speaking about the goals of the University, Rector stressed UNEC to be the first among the universities of the Republic of Azerbaijan in accordance with the ranking of Webometrics. And it was drawn to attention that appropriate affairs are being held in the direction of achieving the QS ranking.
Expressing satisfaction, Ms. Shamshad Akhtar highly evaluated the innovations realized at UNEC. Sh.Akhtar spoke about the prospects of the current economic situation in the region. She delivered information about the real GDP and inflation of the counties. She has announced the sustainable development agenda of the United Nations.
The Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection Metin Kerimli has spoken about the main directions of the social policy of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Emphasizing the role of international relations in education, the Deputy Head of the Ministry of Education’s Administration Fariz Rzayev spoke about its importance in bringing world-class education in the country. The representatives of the state bodies and private sector, at the same time the academic staff of UNEC have taken part in the session.
Ms. Sh.Akhtar and UNEC Rector, Professor Adalat Muradov met after the session. The joint cooperation and future prospects have been spoken about during the meeting.
The establishment of the center for international trade of UNESCAP, students’ internship programs at UNESCAP Secretariat or the sub-regional office of UNESCAP for Northern and Central Asia situated in Almaty, the presentation of UNESCAP publishing to UNEC library and other issues were discussed in the meeting. The implementation of joint research projects on topics relevant to parties and the invitation of UNEC’s staff to UNESCAP’s events have also been made.
