The Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC) announces admissions to doctoral and dissertation programs for the Ph.D. and Doctor of Sciences tracks for the 2024 academic year.
Ph.D. Program Admissions
Candidates for the Ph.D. program must be Azerbaijani citizens who have completed the Master’s level of higher education (by defending a Master’s thesis) or hold an equivalent qualification.
Doctor of Sciences Program Admissions
Applicants must be Azerbaijani citizens with scientific or scientific-pedagogical achievements in their chosen field, capable of conducting high-level fundamental research, and holding a “Doctor of Philosophy” (or candidate of sciences) degree.
Admission to Ph.D. Program via Dissertation
Candidates for the Ph.D. program via dissertation must have completed the Master’s level of higher education, demonstrated success in their research field, and be employed at a higher education institution, scientific institution, or organization with at least two years of scientific-pedagogical experience. Dissertation-based studies for external candidates are subject to a fee at UNEC.
Required Documents for Doctoral or Dissertation Admission
– Personnel record card
– Autobiography
– Two photos (3×4 cm)
– Reference letter from employer
– Employment record (for those with work experience)
– List of published scientific works, including copies of the journals where these works were published (in alignment with the applicant’s chosen specialty). Applicants without scientific publications must submit a specialized report on a topic related to their field (guidelines for report preparation are available on the Report Preparation Requirements page)
– Notarized copies of diplomas and transcripts (for international graduates, the Ministry of Science and Education recognition certificate is required)
– Copy of identification document
– Notarized copy of the Ph.D. (candidate of sciences) diploma (for Doctor of Sciences applicants)
Exam Requirements for Ph.D. Program Applicants
Ph.D. program applicants will take a “Foreign Language” exam in June 2024, administered by the State Examination Center (scheduled for June 9, 2024). Candidates who achieve the required score in the foreign language exam will proceed to the “Philosophy” exam. Those who pass the Philosophy exam with a “pass” grade will be allowed to take the “Specialty” exam. The Philosophy exams are scheduled for September 2, 3, and 4, 2024, while the Specialty exams will be held on September 9, 10, and 11, 2024.
Application Process and Timeline
Applications for doctoral and dissertation programs will be submitted electronically via the portal.edu.az platform from April 16 to May 15, 2024. All documents must be uploaded in PDF format.
