Mrs. Nargiz Hajiyeva is the Ph.D. Research Fellow, Political Scientist, serving as the Head of the Organization of Scientific Activities Division at UNEC Science Department and also the Head of the UNEC Women Researchers Council Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC). Besides, as the first female political scientist from Azerbaijan, she is the Director of the “Empirical Methods” Working Group at the Swiss Political Science Association (SPSA) in Bern, Switzerland.
Between the 2021 and 2022 academic years, she served as the Ph.D. Research Fellow and Political Scientist at the School of Economics and Political Sciences of the University of St. Gallen funded by the Swiss Federal Government Excellence Scholarship Program of the Swiss Secretariat for Education, Research, and Innovation (SERI) in Switzerland. Since 2019, she is a research fellow of the “Democracy Net” – Scholars Network of the Political Science Department of the University of Zurich. Mrs. Hajiyeva is the author of more than 40 articles on international relations and political science, 16 scientific works, 2 books, one book chapter, and many scientific projects in foreign political platforms and journals in various European think tanks and political research institutions.
In 2014, she graduated from the “International Relations” bachelor’s program with merit at Baku State University. She completed the MA with honors in the Political Science and Diplomacy program from Vytautas Magnus University and Sciences PO, Grenoble funded by the Lithuanian and French Governments. She is the honored alumnus of the “EU’s Foreign Policy: EU Affairs” Program of the first diplomatic academy in Europe – called the European Academy of Diplomacy (EAD) in Warsaw, Poland.
At different times, she worked as the political expert at the first think-tank in Central Europe – the Cold War History Research Center under the Corvinus University of Budapest and as the independent diplomatic researcher at the Institute of International Relations Prague under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the Czech Republic.
She is the winner of the Japanese exchange program “MIRAI” from Azerbaijan organized by the Government of Japan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan for the quality and relevance of her dissertation on Karabakh, as well as her experience in the field of international law. Nargiz Hajiyeva is the honorary winner of the international article competition from Azerbaijan dedicated to the “10th anniversary of the Eastern Partnership program” organized by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and Poland.

She has an outstanding experience of almost 7 years as a political researcher in international security and foreign policy, international migration, international law/rule of law, democratic studies, political science, comparative politics, energy security, and diplomacy of South Caucasus countries, IP politics and the 5 full-time years’ experiences in education management and training sphere. Before she served as the International Relations Manager at the Department of International Cooperation and a part-time Political science and Sociology lecturer at the International School of Economics (ISE) at the Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC).
From 2013 to date, she has displayed successful credentials not only in the domestic academia of Azerbaijan but also at prestigious international institutions in Lithuania, Germany, France, Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, Turkey, Spain, and Switzerland, receiving quite a range of awards (PZU Scholarship, KAS, etc.), honored diploma and grants. In a large number of written articles and presentations, I have addressed a broad range of topics of political and societal relevance. As such, I identify myself as a promising political scientist and a political expert with a focus on interests that goes well beyond narrow academic objectives. During her full position at Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC), she provided international master and doctoral students as well as professionals with constructive approaches and recommendations for further development of scientific-theoretical and empirical research in the field of doctoral studies and further internationalization of education at UNEC.
Simultaneously, she made reliable cooperation with Swiss Universities on behalf of the Azerbaijan State University of Economics in various fields of education including exchange programs, and intensive traineeship programs. For example, between 09-26 2022, with the successful intensive discussions with HES-SO Business Management School in Neuchatel Canton, 15 MBA students funded by HES-SO will be participating in the Intensive Traineeship Program to learn the role business environment of Azerbaijan in the Swiss market.
Mrs. Hajiyeva had research seminars and lecturers at many well-known European universities, Mykolas Romeris University, European Humanities University, Vytautas Magnus University, Vilnius University, Siegen University, Corvinus University, Warsaw University, Kazmierski Wielki University, Kozminski University, Lausanne University, the University of St. Gallen, the University of Zurich, the University of Malaga, and Azerbaijani Universities.
Nargiz Hajiyeva was selected as the “C” Group leader and main speaker of the Working group at the INNOCAMP 2022. The 15 days’ intensive program was jointly organized by the Geneva office of the World Intellectual Property Organization and the Korean Intellectual Property Organization. During the program attended by experts on intellectual property from different countries of the world, the “C” group was awarded the “Best Performance Award” for the presentation on “Patent strategy and regulation of intellectual property”.
She speaks Azerbaijani, English, Swiss German, French, Russian, Turkish, and Lithuanian.
