The VI International Scientific Conference of Economics and Management Researchers (ISCEMR-24) held at the Heydar Aliyev Center under the organization of UNEC continued its work on May 24
The first panel discussion of the second day of the conference dedicated to the year “Solidarity for the Green World” was on “Joint competition on the path to sustainable development: main directions and challenges”.
Speaking at the opening of the discussions, Prof. Adalat Muradov said that today’s panels will discuss various aspects of sustainability issues that are important for the world economy. Stating that serious measures are being taken to ensure competition in the country, the rector called the “Competition Code” adopted by the President of the country, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, a historic decision: “The Competition Code contains the most advanced experience in the field of competition in the world, and fully reflects the reality of Azerbaijan. “
The Rector spoke about the positive effects of competition on the market economy and efficient use of resources. Drawing attention to the problems created also by new technologies in the digital economy and digitalization in sustainable development, he noted the importance of conducting scientific research in this direction. A. Muradov also touched on the protection of intellectual property rights in countries with small economies such as Azerbaijan.
Mammad Abbasbeyli, the chairman of the Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control State Service under the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mammad Abbasbeyli made an opening speech and spoke about the role of competition as the main driving force of sustainable economic development and the application of optimal regulation criteria in this process. He noted that the rapid development of the country’s economy, global integration and the transformation processes taking place in the world under the influence of changing business models necessitated the introduction of new competition legislation – the Competition Code. M. Abbasbeyli also drew attention to the presence of regulatory instruments that promote joint competition in the Code.
Then the panel discussion started. In the panel “Joint competition on the path to sustainable development: main directions and challenges” moderated by the deputy head of ACMCSS, Jafar Babayev, the head of the Turkish Competition Authority Birol Küle, the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Turkish Businessmen’s Union Cemal Yangın, the founder and CEO of the “Veysaloglu” group of companies director Aydın Talibov, chief expert of the Competition Department of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, Maria Pilar Canedo Arrilaga, shared their views on the topic. During the discussions, interesting ideas were voiced about the state, private sector and university cooperation in ensuring sustainable development, the role of private sectors in solving global problems, regulation of the free market and other issues, and the questions of the conference participants were answered.
The next panel session was about “The role of private initiatives in the transition to Green Economy and technologies”. In the discussions, the opinions on the role of public sectors in the transition to a green economy, ways to eliminate the climate finance gap, maintaining the balance between economic development and the environment, and waste management were voiced by experts.
In the last panel entitled “Green and Circular Economy in the Turkic World: Road Map for Transition”, experts from the countries of the Turkic World discussed current issues related to the topic.
The conference organized by UNEC, Heydar Aliyev Center, Regional Development Union and sponsored by “Pasha Holding” successfully completed its work.
Within the framework of the conference, a tree-planting action was held with the support of the National Associations of Municipalities of Azerbaijan. During the campaign, more than 300 trees were planted by the participants of the conference in accordance with the climatic conditions.
