Trainings of the platform “Web of Science”- global scientific base of the higher education institutions of the leading information agency of the world “Thomson Reuters” has been launched at Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC) on June 22.
The employees of other public higher education institutions of Azerbaijan attended the trainings conducted by the employees of the department of Scientific Researches and Intellectual Property of the “Thomson Reuters” together with UNEC.
Director of the Department “Science”, Professor Zahid Mammadov provided the participants with the information about the goal of the training. He said that the conception “Azerbaijan 2020: Vision for the Future” is mainly targeted to make the information accessible to everyone: “This includes scientific data, too”. In this regard, the services offered by “Thomson Reuters” are very important for the adaptation of scientific researches to international standards, as well as our scientists’ awareness about the investigations conducted in the world. With the help of this scientists will be able to make a comparative assessment of scientific journals on their fields and to choose a more effective way for publishing.
Director of the Education Programs of the “Thomson Reuters” Department of Scientific Researches and Intellectual Property Valentin Bogorov and agency’s representative for South Caucasus Margarita Sidorova have made broad presentation about the scientific data base. According to the information “web of Science” is an internationally recognized academic gateway. 12000 journals and 148000 conference materials on different areas- natural, social and humanitarian sciences and culture are placed on the database. This database stores all kinds of information on a range of issues of interests to scientists, scientific references, documents, conference materials. Materials about the innovations and achievements gained in every field are updated in the portal constantly.
It is possible to find the achievements obtained in all fields of science by the most prestigious scientists and the decision by them in the “Web of Science”. All of these help to succeed in any investigation, as well as getting grants. The portal is also the extensive scientific theses base. It is possible to gain access to the portal through a subscription.
The representatives of the company noted that in addition to giving a strong impetus to the development of science in Azerbaijan, access to “Thomson Reuters” will lead to the development of international cooperation and increase the number of publications of local researchers.
The training attendees were taught the work opportunities on the “Web of Science” platform. Trainings organized by UNEC Department of Science will last 2 days. The participants will be awarded certificates.
