On May 23, the VI International Scientific Conference of Economics and Management Researchers (ISCEMR-24) started its work with the joint organization of Heydar Aliyev Center, Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC), Regional Development Public Union (RDPU), International Master’s and Doctorate Center. This year’s conference dedicated to the year “Solidarity for a Green World” and organized under the theme “New Era of Sustainable Development: Green Transformation and Climate Finance” will continue until May 26.
The participants of the event first visited the grave of the national leader Heydar Aliyev in the Alley of Honor, paid tribute to the dear memory of the great leader, and laid flowers in front of the grave.
At the opening of the event held at the Heydar Aliyev Center, guests were introduced to the books “Book of Summaries”, the textbook “Green Economy”, the proceeding “Green Economy and Sustainable Development” and “Green and Transformational Economy in the Turkish World: A Roadmap for Transition” published by UNEC within the framework of the conference. The participants were also informed about the book “Sustainable Development and Green Innovation: Managing risk through interdisciplinary approaches and policy strategies”, which will be published based on the cooperation of UNEC and EMERALD publishing house.
Welcoming the participants at the official opening, the rector of UNEC Professor Adalat Muradov said that 374 researchers from 39 countries will participate in the international conference and 245 research papers will be presented in 42 sessions. A. Muradov spoke about the goals and objectives of UNEC’s Development Strategy in his speech: “Our strategic goal is to turn UNEC into a research university by 2030. Most of the goals are related to scientific research.” The Rector also brought to the attention of the participants the metric indicators of UNEC’s scientific activity and the results achieved. He said that 97 percent of the scientific works indexed in the “Scopus” database, 99 percent of the number of references, 99 percent of the scientific works with foreign authors, 90 percent of the scientific works indexed in the “Web of Science” database, 93 percent of the number of references, 87 percent of the scientific works with foreign authors belong to 2014-2024. A. Muradov emphasized that according to the ranking of world universities in “SC imago”, UNEC was ranked 1st in Azerbaijan in 2023. He pointed out that UNEC is the leader in the country in terms of the number of articles published in Q1 journals.
Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev said that the ISCEMR conference, held annually by UNEC, has given impetus to the development of education and science in the country. Appreciating the increasing dynamics of scientific activity at UNEC, the minister said that UNEC is particularly distinguished by the number of young people studying abroad with the State Program. E. Amrullayev also touched on the issue of financing scientific research: “In the last few years, quantitative and qualitative changes have been observed in the scientific research work of a number of our universities. “If we want higher education institutions to conduct more scientific research, the form of research funding should be revised.” Emphasizing that radical changes should be made in doctoral programs, the minister noted the necessity of creating credit-based programs in this direction.
The head of the Turkish Competition Authority, Birol Kule, spoke about the importance of cooperation between countries in order to ensure the stability of economies. He stated that successful works and projects have been implemented in order to ensure competition in the country, and said that a common ground will be created for the sustainable development of both countries.
Simuzer Farajzadeh, the coordinator of education and environmental projects of RDPU, spoke about the work done in reducing the negative effects of climate change, creating a quality environment, transforming into a green economy, and other areas in this direction.
After the opening speeches, plaques were presented to the speakers. The conference continued with panel sessions entitled “Sustainable development in Azerbaijani universities: renewable energy and climate”, “Directing the future: Innovations in climate change financing for a sustainable future”.
On May 24, within the framework of the conference, interesting discussions will be held on the topics such as “Green and sustainable global economic progress in Azerbaijani universities against the background of the use of renewable energy sources and climate change”, “Joint competition on the path to sustainable development: Main directions and challenges”, “The role of private initiatives in the transition to green economy and technologies” and “Green and circular economy in the Turkish world: a road map for the transition”. In the panel discussions to be organized at the Heydar Aliyev Center within the framework of the conference, in addition to the leaders of local and foreign state and private sector organizations, a total of 28 speakers, experts from international organizations and foreign universities, will participate, 17 of whom are representatives of foreign countries.
It should be noted that 245 research papers were accepted to report on at the conference on the current issues as green economy, sustainable development, renewable energy sources, climate financing. The book, which will be prepared based on the research work, will be indexed in many prestigious academic databases of the world.
Olive trees in pots were presented to local and foreign guests who participated in the conference. The purpose of the action is to plant trees in all corners of our country within the framework of the conference and to contribute to the improvement of the environment. A tree planting action will be held on May 26 with the support of National Associations of Azerbaijan Municipalities within the framework of the conference held under the main sponsorship of “Pasha Holding”. In the action, it is planned to plant more than 300 trees in accordance with the climatic conditions by the participants of the conference.
