Opening Ceremony of “UNEC Volunteer Week” Held
The Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC) hosted the grand opening ceremony of “UNEC Volunteer Week.”
Prior to the event, the memory of martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan was honored with a minute of silence, followed by the national anthem.
In her opening remarks, Saadat Gandilova, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, spoke about the volunteer activities of UNEC students. She emphasized their active participation in the social and public life of both the university and the country. Gandilova noted that UNEC is home to 13 student organizations, including the UNEC Volunteers Organization and the Digital Volunteers Organization, highlighting the leading role of UNEC students in Azerbaijan’s volunteer movement.
Member of Parliament Jeyhun Mammadov addressed the audience, underlining the importance of volunteerism and commending the active involvement of volunteers at the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. He emphasized that volunteerism is an integral part of the state’s youth policy and discussed the government’s support for this field.
UNEC Student Rector Nihad Isgandarov provided details about “UNEC Volunteer Week,” stating that the initiative aims to further develop a culture of volunteerism among students, increase public engagement, and instill a sense of social responsibility. He announced that the week would feature various events and projects, including intellectual and sports competitions, excursions, and informational sessions on successful examples of volunteer activities.
Humay Gasimli, a representative of the DOST Volunteers Center, gave an overview of the DOST program and the activities of DOST volunteers. UNEC’s active DOST volunteer, Said Asgarov, shared his experiences.
Ali Khalilov, a recruitment and training specialist for Baku City Circuit Volunteers, spoke about youth participation in new projects and later conducted an interactive game with students, presenting gifts to active participants.
Speakers at the event included UNEC Formula 1 volunteer Roya Farajova, Chair of the “Sports Volunteers Fans” Public Union Atanur Jafarli, MEDIA Volunteers Coordinator Aynur Zeynalli, and UNEC’s active media volunteer Nazira Rahimli, who shared their experiences in volunteer activities.
It was noted that “UNEC Volunteer Week” will continue until December 11.
