A meeting was held with UNEC students on the topic “The role of solidarity in the revival of Karabakh”
On March 3, a meeting was held with the students of the Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC) on the topic “The role of solidarity in the revival of Karabakh”.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Karabakh Revival Foundation Rahman Hajiyev, Rector of UNEC, Adalat Muradov, member of the Supervisory Board of the Karabakh Revival Fund, Fatma Yildirim, MP of the Milli Majlis, university teachers, and students took part in the meeting.
UNEC rector, professor Adalat Muradov, who made an opening speech at the event, said that one of the main tasks before us after the great victory we won in the Patriotic War is to transform the victory into all areas of our lives. According to the rector, young people and students also have a great responsibility in this field. They should contribute to the restoration of the territories freed from occupation with their innovative thoughts and interesting initiatives. He suggested the creation of an initiative group of young people in this regard.
Adalat Muradov also spoke about Karabakh University planned to be established in Aghdam city: “Karabakh University planned to be established in Aghdam city will be one of the most modern and advanced educational institutions in the world. In the near future, we will start collecting books for the mentioned university. I personally think of donating a thousand books.”
Saying that the restoration of Karabakh is a national issue, the rector called on all people who love their homeland to actively participate in this work.
The video clip “Urbicide in Karabakh” was shown which was prepared based on the materials of the “Karabakh Center” internet resource (https://karabakh.center/az) whose idea author is Mehriban Aliyeva, the First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Later, the Chairman of the Board of Karabakh Revival Fund Rahman Hajiyev made a presentation. R. Hajiyev noted that after the historic victory won by the glorious Azerbaijani army under the leadership of the Commander-in-Chief, President Ilham Aliyev in the 44-day Patriotic War, we have a new mission – the mission of restoring and rebuilding the liberated Karabakh:
“The extent of destruction in the liberated territories is extremely large. Our cities destroyed by Armenians are even compared to the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which were destroyed by atomic bombs during the Second World War. An act of vandalism was carried out not only against our settlements but also against our historical and religious monuments. However, although the restoration of the territories freed from occupation is a complex process, I believe that by showing solidarity, we will be able to cope with this difficult and honorable task.”
Rahman Hajiyev gave detailed information to the participants of the meeting about the main activities of the Karabakh Revival Fund established on the basis of the Decree of President Ilham Aliyev dated January 4, 2021, the work done and the projects implemented in the territories freed from occupation with the support of the Fund.
Appreciating the role of solidarity in the reconstruction of Karabakh, the Chairman of the Board took an excursion into history and cited the example of the restoration of cities and other settlements destroyed after the First and Second World Wars:
“For example, during the First World War, many European cities were seriously destroyed, and some were almost wiped out. Nevertheless, people united around cultural values and rebuilt those cities.
In many cases, the restoration of cultural monuments, which are the symbols of the cities, was carried out at the expense of donations made by local and foreign entrepreneurs and wide circles of society. If we look at the experience of the French cities of Lans and Reims, we can see that various fundraising initiatives organized on the basis of the idea of restoration of historical monuments made it possible to carry out the restoration of the city of Reims in a shorter time. The city of Lance, which did not use this potential, was left behind in the restoration process. All this shows the importance of the role of solidarity in the restoration of cities and historical monuments.
Speaking about the role of students and young people in the reconstruction of Karabakh, Rahman Hajiyev said that holding regular meetings with students and young people is of great importance in this regard:
“As a foundation, it is very important for us to hold regular meetings with students and young people, to study their thoughts and suggestions. In the near future, we will prepare a working plan for what we can do with young people. With this, young people will have the opportunity to participate more closely in the reconstruction of Karabakh.”
Speaking later, MP of the Milli Majlis, a member of the Supervisory Board of the Karabakh Revival Fund Fatma Yıldırım said that although the rapid reconstruction and restoration works are currently underway in the territories freed from occupation, there is still a lot of work to be done:
“After the victory in the Patriotic War, new opportunities have been opened for the further strengthening of our country. However, even though the war is over, the information war continues. A peace treaty has not yet been signed. Therefore, young people should participate more actively in the reconstruction of Karabakh, especially in the information war”.
After the speeches, the meeting continued with discussions and a question-and-answer session. The participants of the event answered numerous questions addressed by the students.
