UNEC summed up the next successfully held “Science Month”
In order to ensure effective organization, management and development of scientific activities at UNEC, the “Science Month” was held on February 27 – March 27 by the decree of UNEC rector, Prof. Adalat Muradov.
“Science Month” has been held on the basis of the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the establishment of the “Science Day” dated 9 April 2018, an example of care and attention to the development of science, which has been accompanied by series of events and discussions of the most important problems of economics.
Today, at the event held with the participation of the member of the Public Supervisiory Council at UNEC, a well-known educational expert, prof. Shakhlar Askerov, the vice- rector for Science and Innovation, prof. Sakit Yagubov gave information about the activities carried out within the framework of Science Month. 22 events covering topical issues were held within the framework of the “Science Month”, the leading scientists of the country joined the plenary sessions, roundtables and presentations were organized at various UNEC educational buildings. The “Science Month” started with the official opening ceremony on the 27th of February with the participation of the rector of UNEC, Professor Adalat Muradov, MP, Chairman of the Committee on Economic Policy, Industry and Entrepreneurship of Milli Majlis academician Ziyad Samadzadeh, academic secretary of ANAS Department of Social Sciences academician Nargiz Akhundova, members of the UNEC Public Supervisory Board and faculty members. During the event information has been given about the work carried out in recent years, gained results and achievements in the direction of further expansion of scientific activity, stimulation of scientific research and investigation, transferring to research university . 22 Research Centers, which have held many events in this area, the Young Scholars Council, the UNEC Research Fund, and the department of Organization and Management of Scientific Activities, have been established at UNEC which focuses on the transformation into the research university. As a result of the stimulus measures, a significant increase was observed in the number of scientific works of the UNEC academic staff in the Web of Science. About 56% of the scientific works (77 works) included in the Web of Science database by UNEC in 1991-2018 falls to the last three years′ share.
Rector, professor Adalat Muradov spoke about the contributions made by academician Telman Aliyev to world science at the event titled “History, Status and Perspectives of Informatics and Management Science in Azerbaijan” within the framework of “Science Month”. Pointing out that the modern day is based on the knowledge economy, academician Telman Aliyev noted that experts were being prepared to contribute to the development of the economy at UNEC.
A meeting was held with the correspondent member of ANAS, Professor Akif Musayev within the framework of “Science Month” and he made a report on “Evaluation of mutual relations of macroeconomic indicators and tax burden in uncertainty”. The reporter touched upon the problem of secret economy, greater share of finance sector compared to real sector and also greater share of material production to service sector.
Within the month a report was listened on the Nobel Prize winners in economics 2018 Paul Romer and William Nordhaus. After giving detailed information on the life and scientific activities of Paul Romer and William Nordhaus, who won the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2018, the reporter, scientific secretary of scientific-research center of economic investigations under UNEC Rafail Rzayev commented for what researches they had been awarded these prizes.
Discussions on econophysics, which has emerged from the second half of the 1990s as a new science field, were held at the event devoted to the topic “New science areas-econophysics” within science month. It was reported that Econophysics Investigation Centre has been established at UNEC and it is supervised by well-known scientist, Prof. Shakhlar Askerov.
Within the framework of the month, the following topics were discussed: “History, Status and Prospects of Informatics and Management Science in Azerbaijan”, “Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Science”, “Institutional System of Scientific Activity: Modern Situation and Perspectives”, “Financing system of scientific activity”, “Information provision of scientific activity and expertise problems of scientific-technical performance”, ,” Digital economy: problems and perspectives “, “Digital economy and development tendencies in Azerbaijan “.
Within the month, head of Islamic Economy Centre “Meybullayev” Assist. Prof. Servinaz Khasanzadeh made a report on “”Islamic Finance: Modern Trends and Prospects for Development”, head of the department of ISE Altay Ismayilov on “”Involvement of Students in Scientific Activity: Potential Opportunities and Perspectives”, Director of the Center for Cognitive Economy, Assist. Prof. Mansur Barkhudarov on “Azerbaijan’s Economy in the Context of Cognitive Investigations” and head of the Labor Market Monitoring Center, Assist. Prof. Ismayil Ismayilov made a report on “The current state of the labor market in Azerbaijan”.
During this science month the roundtables were held on the topics: “The role of universities in the socio-economic development of regions: in UNEC example ” in UNEC’s Zagatala branch, “Derbent branch of UNEC in Russian Science” in Derbent branch, “From College to University: Problems and Perspectives” at Azerbaijan Financial Economic College under UNEC.
