Along with the UNEC staff, the families of martyrs, veterans, soldiers, members of the Orchestra of the Military Institute named after Heydar Aliyev, and other guests attended the event.
Before the event’s opening, participants laid flowers in front of the Memorial-Remembrance Complex, erected in honor of UNEC’s martyr alumni and students, paying tribute to the memory of the martyrs.
After the National Anthem was played, the host of the event, People’s Artist Nuraddin Mehdikhanli, spoke about Victory Day, which marked Azerbaijan’s glorious victory. He emphasized how our people united as one around our victorious Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, demonstrating their strength, resilience, and fighting spirit to the entire world.
UNEC’s Vice-Rector for Administrative and Organizational Affairs, Associate Professor Shaig Asgarov, congratulated the participants on behalf of the university leadership on Victory Day. He noted that, under the leadership of Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev and through the bravery of our glorious army, our ancestral lands, which had been under occupation for 30 years, were liberated, and that we, as citizens of a victorious country, celebrate Victory Day with great pride. Asgarov highlighted that 48 of UNEC’s students and alumni sacrificed their lives for the independence and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, with 24 of them martyred during the Patriotic War and 3 during anti-terror operations.
Then, military expert and holder of the “Azerbaijani Flag” order, retired Colonel Elkhan Shikhaliyev, father of Patriotic War martyr Mursal Kazimli, Kamil Kazimli, and UNEC student, Patriotic War hero Gazanfar Aghayev, gave speeches. The speakers emphasized that Azerbaijan’s victory was not only a military triumph but also a historical victory of our people. They noted that the victorious end of the Patriotic War exemplified Azerbaijan’s commitment to justice and its resilience in demonstrating this to the global community.
Victory Day continued with a concert program by the Orchestra of the Military Institute named after Heydar Aliyev, filled with the spirit of triumph.
