As part of the seminar, Professor Chontoyev delivered a comprehensive presentation to students of the Russian School of Economics and the Faculty of Finance and Accounting, addressing key issues related to water resource management in Kyrgyzstan and the broader Central Asian region, water security, the impacts of climate change, and environmental sustainability.
In his remarks, the Rector emphasized that the efficient and equitable management of water resources has evolved into not merely a regional concern but a matter of global security. He noted that climate change, population growth, urbanization, and industrialization continue to intensify pressure on water resources, thereby necessitating enhanced international cooperation. Particular attention was given to the joint governance of transboundary water basins, the role of water diplomacy, and the implementation of innovative technologies as critical priorities in the contemporary context.
The seminar also addressed the interconnections between water, energy, and food security, the transition toward a green economy, sustainable financing mechanisms, and the role of higher education institutions within the sustainable development agenda. It was underscored that universities function not only as centers of knowledge dissemination but also as research and innovation hubs capable of responding effectively to global challenges.
The event proceeded with interactive discussions, during which students posed questions concerning the economic valuation of water resources, carbon footprint reduction, green investment strategies, and the role of public–private partnerships. Professor Chontoyev provided detailed insights into practical approaches, current regional statistical data, and prospects for international collaboration.
At the conclusion of the seminar, students conveyed their appreciation, highlighting the significance of the event in facilitating the exchange of international experience and fostering dialogue on global sustainability challenges.
