From 19.10.2020, the departments of “Expertise of consumer goods”, “Standardization and Certification” and their teaching-methodological laboratories under them were abolished.

The departments of “Expertise of consumer goods”, “Standardization and certification”, “Technology of food products”, “Technological machines and field equipment” and “Physics and chemistry” of the faculty “Expertise and standardization” were abolished. The faculty of “Engineering” and the department of “Engineering and applied sciences ” were established.

About department

The department was established in September 1996 as part of the Baku Commodity-Commercial Institute. It has   operated at Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC) since 2000 at the “Commodity Studies” faculty, and since 2018 at the faculty of   “Expertise and Standardization”. In 1996-2011 it was headed by Doctor of technical sciences., Prof. N.R. Mammadov, and since 2011, Doctor of technical sciences, Prof.  Z.Y. Aslanov.   The department has 12 professors and one professor-consultant. 2 of them are professors, 4 associate professors, 3 senior teachers, 3 teachers. The department also has 4 senior laboratory assistants. At present, the department conducts bachelor and master degree programs in “Metrology, Standardization and Certification Engineering”. At the master’s degree level, masters are trained in two specialties: “Standardization and Certification” and “Metrology and metrological support”.

In order to improve the teaching situation, the academic  staff of the department has prepared a number of teaching materials and monographs that meet modern requirements. During 2007-2019, the staff of the department developed and published 8 textbooks, 13 textbooks, 9 methodical instructions, 9 monographs, 2 textbooks translated from Russian and curricula of the taught subjects. During this period, many scientific articles and conference theses were prepared and published by the staff of the department.

In connection with the transition to the Bologna system of education, curricula for both of the above specialties have been revised. According to these plans, 27 subjects are taught at the department at the bachelor’s level and 15 subjects at the master’s level in “Metrology, Standardization and Certification Engineering”. In connection with the application of the EDUMAN system at the university, teaching materials (lecture texts, tests, seminar materials and other materials) in all subjects in Azerbaijani and Russian languages have been developed and used in the teaching process.

In accordance with the teaching process, there is a laboratory on the subject “Measurement Techniques” at the department. This laboratory has a number of devices, tools and equipment. Here students take laboratory classes.

The department took the second place in 2015/2016, the third place in 2016/2017, the second place in 2017/2018, and the first place in the ranking table of the University departments according to the results of the 2018/2019 academic year. At that time, three or four teachers of the department were in the top thirty for their service activities.

Employees of the department are actively involved in research. In 2017-2019, the department conducted   the state budget research work on “Study of certification to improve the quality of light industry products.” The main goal is to improve the quality of light and food industry products produced in the country in the conduct of state-funded research, to improve the methods of metrology, standardization and certification in the management of the quality of these products.

 

Factors affecting the linear dimensions of the pieces, their evaluation methods, certification systems for light industry products, certification of quality systems were accepted as the object of research. Certification is to improve the quality of light industry products using the advantages of certification based on the study of systems, quality systems certification, the activities of certification bodies and testing laboratories, methods for assessing the physical and mechanical properties of products in textile enterprises.

Scientific-methodical seminars are held at the department. Every year, 2 lecturers give lectures at seminars. These reports are mainly devoted to the issues of standardization, certification, metrology and metrological support at the international and regional levels. These seminars are of great importance for the full formation of the staff of the department in the field of standardization, certification and metrology.

The academic staff of the department involves students of specialized courses in scientific work through the Student Scientific Society. Every year 10-15 students take part in scientific work. They make reports at the relevant scientific conferences of the University and publish the theses of their reports in the conference materials. Most of these students continue their education at the master’s level.

The department has established close relations with schools of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Among them are Azerbaijan State Oil Academy, Azerbaijan Technical University, Azerbaijan Technological University, Azerbaijan Cooperation University, Turkey Suleyman Demirel University, Russian State Kostroma Technological University, Telavi State University of Georgia, Moscow State University, Tashkent State Agency for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control of Textile and Light Industry, “Baku Sewing House” Open Joint-Stock Company, “Sarar” OJSC, “Shirin” OJSC and “Barama” OJSC, “Institute of Standardization”, “Institute of Metrology”. Employees of the department cooperate with the relevant departments of these universities. They have prepared joint scientific articles, curricula, methodical instructions.
