Nusrat Haydar Gurbanov was born in 1950 in the village of Nuvedi, located in the foothills of the Mehri region of Western Azerbaijan, with icy springs. He graduated from high school in Nuvadi with a gold medal.
In 1972 he graduated from the Azerbaijan Institute of National Economy with honors (red) diploma.
He studied full-time postgraduate studies in Moscow (1974-1978). In 1979 he defended his dissertation on the study of pectin in plant raw materials at the Faculty of Food Technology of the Moscow Institute of National Economy named after G.V Plekhanov, specialty “Technology of food products.”
He worked at a number of institutes and universities from assistant to associate professor. In 2000-2014 he was the head of the “Food Technology” department at the Azerbaijan State University of Economics.
In 2003, he conducted research at the Institute of Food Technology and Food Chemistry of the Technical University of Berlin with a grant from the international organization DAAD, research on pectin in pomegranate, salepine from orchids and pomegranate oil, etc. 2 articles (2005) were published in Germany together with German scientists.

In 2006 he participated in the scientific competition of the international organization ISESCO. Since 2002 he has been working on his doctoral dissertation, developed functional technologies and technologies for obtaining plant components from raw materials.
He has published more than 230 scientific and methodological works. He has published more than 100 scientific and methodological materials on doctoral topics, including 12 textbooks, 40 articles, 2 monographs. He has 8 inventions (patents). He has participated in more than 40 international scientific conferences. His works have been published in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Germany (2005), USA (2018-2020), Brazil (2020). He has supervised 3 dissertations.
In 2016, he was awarded the state medal “Progress”, in 2017 he was awarded the badge of the leading educator of the republic. He has 1 son and 2 grandchildren.
He is currently an associate professor of “Food Technology” at the Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC). Supervises master’s and PhD dissertations, prepares 2 textbooks and 2 monographs for publication. N.H Gurbanov’s recent research is related to the production of protein and pectin preparations from promising plant raw materials, the production of functional compositions from local horse beans (Faba Vulgaris Moench) by bioactivation (germination) and their application in modern food technologies.
