Reports about the Nobel Prize Laureates: Paul Krugman
The third hearings of a series of reports about the Nobel Laureates in Economy were held within the “Science Month” at Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC) on the occasion of the World Science Day on October 28.
Making an opening speech, Director of the Science and Innovations Center, Professor Sakit Yagubov made the attendees with the actions plan on the “Science Month”. He brought to attention that the competition of scientific articles written by UNEC’s academic staff, young research fellows, graduate and undergraduate students would be held and invited the participants to be active within the contests.
The scientific secretary of the UNEC Scientific-research Institute of Economic Studies Reshad Huseynov made a presentation about the Nobel Prize Laureate (2008) Paul Krugman. He said that P.Krugman was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for his contributions to New Trade Theory and New Economic Geography. Krugman’s work explains the patterns of international trade and the geographic distribution of economic activity, by examining the effects of economies of scale and of consumer preferences for diverse goods.
Sharing his view on Paul Krugman’s theories, Head of the Department of Economy and Administration of Labor Tofig Guliyev noted the necessity of critical approach to some aspects of theory.

It should be noted that a series of events has been started at UNEC within the “Science Month” in the months October-November. A range of events such as scientific workshops, round-table discussions are in progress within the “Science Month” at UNEC. The competition of UNEC’s academic staff’s, young research fellows’ and graduate students’ articles on “Socio-economic Development of Azerbaijan: Achievements and Perspectives” will take place in accordance with the program. The “Science Month” will be completed on November 10 “World Science Day for Peace and Development”. The rewarding of scientific articles’ competition held among the academic staff, young research fellows, graduate and undergraduate students will take place in the event.
