Presentation of the book “Reading fast with understanding” has been held at UNEC. The author of the book, which was translated and printed in Azerbaijani by “Qanun” publishing house, is fast reading expert Peter Kump.
The presentation ceremony was opened by UNEC Vice-Rector for Science and Innovations Associate Professor Fariz Ahmadov, who said that the main purpose of regularly organized book presentations at the university is to develop the reading environment, to form fast reading habits in young people and to promote useful books. He proposed the creation of a “Book Lovers’ Club” among all the organizations operating in Azerbaijan.
Shahbaz Khuduoglu, the founder and director of “Qanun” publishing house, pointed out that they organized a book exhibition at UNEC for the first time among the country’s universities, and highly appreciated the support given by this higher education institution to the development of the book industry and reading culture. Speaking about the importance of the event, the publisher said that the presented book talks about the possibility of reading quickly and understanding: “The main way to read and understand quickly is to run after what you read. One can achieve anything one pursues with purpose, and speed reading creates useful habits. That’s why reading a book is happiness.”
Aygun Aziz, the translation manager of “Qanun” publishing house, spoke about the main criteria of effective translation.
Then the director of the UNEC Library-Information Center, PhD in history, Adila Abdullayeva gave an interesting report on “Reading habits and speed reading”.
A.Abdullayeva also pointed out that the competition on “Speed reading” has been launched at UNEC, and explained the conditions of the competition. He said that teachers, employees and students who want to participate in the competition should register by May 26. Participants will be notified of the contest date and will be provided with a selection of books in several languages to read during the contest. Contestants who read more than 500 words in 1 minute will be considered fast readers.
