Round-table Discussion held at UNEC: “Multiculturalism in Azerbaijan and Socio- economic Growth”
Round-table Discussion on “Multiculturalism in Azerbaijan and Socio-economic Growth” has been held at Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC). Beside UNEC’s academic staff and foreign students study in the University the representatives of scientific and educational institutions of our country have taken part in the discussion.
Making an opening speech of the round-table organized by the Faculty of Commerce Dean of the Faculty Miragha Ahmadov said following the decree signed by the President Ilham Aliyev about the announcement of 2016 the “Year of Multiculturalism” people’s interest and attention to this issue has grown even more. He noted that the real steps have been taken at UNEC regarding the order. Thus, the disciplines “Introduction to Multiculturalism” and “Azerbaijan’s Multiculturalism” have been included into the all curricula of the university and are taught to undergraduate and graduate students.
The Branch Manager of Baku International Multiculturalism Center (BIMC) Hikmat Babayev has emphasized that multiculturalism is the main area of the state policy. He said the Azerbaijani Constitution developed in 1995 under the leadership of our Great Leader Heydar Aliyev create equal life condition for all people living in our country, a different civilization, a national regulatory and legislative framework with the aim of coexistence of people with different religious ideology. Today, regardless the religion, race, nationality, language of everyone, their rights and freedoms are protected and the cultural values of ethnic groups are developed. H.Babayev noted that one of the main objectives of Azerbaijan BIMC charter is to study multiculturalism in Azerbaijan.
Head of the Department of Multiculturalism of Baku Slavic University Ulviyya Abbasova has drawn to attention that the disciplines “Azerbaijan’s Multiculturalism” and “Introduction to Multiculturalism” are currently taught in 13 overseas and 28 domestic universities. She noted that UNEC’s academic potential is strong enough to help in the formation of economic and scientific foundation of multiculturalism.
Then UNEC scholars have made proposals for wider dissemination of multiculturalism in the region and international area. Head of the Department Regulation of Economy, Professor Mahish Ahmadov has pointed that the main condition and material base for successful implementation of multicultural values is the socio-economic development in the country. Ahmadov noted to strengthen the material basis of multiculturalism in Azerbaijan the economists have to deepen and diversify the research in this direction. Professor proposed the consideration of the country’s economic development strategy for the near future at this point in the economic, social, demographic, cultural, humanitarian, co-existence, unity and solidarity in the solution of the problems. Head of the Department “Economy and Management of Social Sphere”, Professor A.Alirzayev said the economic and social development factor and as a result will depend on the resource potential of multiculturalism. State revenues, private foundations and socio-economic opportunities, increasing demand for the development of multiculturalism. The role of multiculturalism and economic opportunities for social, legal and organizational base is improved. A.Alirzayev about multiculturalism that the proposed framework law. He said the subject of his objective and institutional system should be regulated by law. Management of socio-economic development of multiculturalism is the priority in terms of the efficiency of the factors. Education, health, social justice and equitable principles of job growth of welfare of the population, is a leading chain of social policy.
In the event economic regions densely populated by national minorities with the aim of sustainable socio-economic development “of the multicultural and socio-economic development” to carry out research and UNEC involvement of the experts stressed the importance of an experienced economist.
