A scientific workshop was held at Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC). Economists and research fellows of UNEC’s Scientific-research Institute of Economics Studies discussed a wide range of remarks made at a meeting dedicated to the results of socio-economic development of 9 months of 2016 and all tasks held by the Cabinet of Ministers under the President Ilham Aliyev’s chairmanship.
The Director of the SRIES, Professor Yadulla Hasanli provided the participants with the information about the results of socio-economic development of 9 months of 2016.
UNEC’s senior research fellow at the Research Institute for Economic Research Elman Ibishov spoke about the instructions and recommendations arising from the President’s speech, with special emphasis on the achievements and challenges in the process. He said, the new challenges created by the processes taking place in the global economy, the rise in geopolitical tensions in the region, despite the macroeconomic stability was achieved in the nine months of last year, it is also the policy of social and economic life, and the reality is based on pragmatic enough to prove once again. The reforms are also highly regarded by the world’s leading economic centers of the Davos World Economic Forum, Azerbaijan’s economy has been awarded 37th place in the world for competitiveness.
The seminar focused on important tasks for the coming period as determined by the President, has been the primary targets of these tasks. It was noted that the reduction of oil exports and non-oil sector and increase exports of the main goals of eliminating dependence on imports. The main directions of the area are the industry and agriculture. The agricultural sector, cotton, wheat, sericulture, viticulture and other areas showing growth in priority areas, he emphasized the need for thorough study of areas.
