A conference on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of restoration of State Independence has been held at Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC). Members of Parliament Vahid Ahmadov and Ali Masimli attended the conference along with the teaching staff and students of UNEC.
Event started with the National Anthem of Azerbaijan. Afterwards, a video on “The Independence of Azerbaijan is eternal, invincible and irreversible” was demonstrated.
Congratulating Azerbaijan people, UNEC’s teaching staff and the students on the occasion of the State Independence Day, Rector, Professor Adalat Muradov had a brief look at the history of independence. He said that Azerbaijani people are lucky that they are citizens of a free and independent state. We are pleased that the state independence protected by the Great Leader is further strengthened by his loyal follower President Ilham Aliyev.
Having a brief glance at a glorious history of freedom, Member of Parliament Vahid Ahmadov who signed the act of independence, spoke about the people’s struggle to achieve independence. According to him, 43 deputies, including the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev voted for the collapse of USSR and later on October 18 1991 the Constitutional Act to in recognition of the independence was passed and Azerbaijan began to operate as an independent state.
Speaking about the stage of the formation of a new economic model, member of Parliament mentioned the economic reforms implemented by the National Leader Heydar Aliyev in the way of preserving the independence, especially the “Contract of Century” the author of which was the Great Leader and underlined not only economic, but also geo- political significance of the project.
Head of UNEC’s Department, Professor Umudvar Aliyev made a speech on “Phase of High Economic Growth”. He talked about the economic achievements gained in 2003-2013 and successful socio- economic policy held by the President Ilham Aliyev.
Member of Parliament, Honorary Alumnus of UNEC Ali Masimli spoke about the work to be done to ensure sustainable economic growth in Azerbaijan which entered the post oil period in his report on “Phase of Economic Diversification”. He said that it is possible to ensure stable economy in the country due to human resources, rich underground and aboveground resources, as well as favorable geo- political environment. A.Masimli noted that there is a need to increase attention to non-oil sector, especially export- oriented large-scale enterprises in the regions and thus to form Azerbaijan brand to provide economic growth and made proposals.
Event proceeded with discussions. UNEC’s economist scholars talked about the necessity of economic conception, development of new economic model and clustering of economy within the medium and long term.
In the end, Members of Parliament Vahid Ahmadov and Ali Masimli answered the participants’ questions.
