Today is our eternal student Ramzi Asgerov’s memorial day.
Ramzi’s sister Sevil Asgerova remembers her martyr brother this way:
– Ramzi was born on January 21 1967 in Lachin. We were 8 children in the family, four sisters and four brothers. Ramzi was the third child in the family. He was distinguished at school with courage, honesty and sense of justice. He dreamt for being a serviceman. When he was in the 8th form, the teacher tasked them to write an essay on “What do you dream to become?” He had expressed his desire with such nice words and got 5. My deceased father saved Ramzi’s copy- book with himself until the last days.
– What kind of person was Ramzi?
– He was very communicable boy. Still in the secondary school, he was very sincere attitude to his teachers. He was fine organizational and self-driven, so he participated in all events of the school actively. After he completed the secondary school, entered to the Azerbaijan Institute of National Economy, current UNEC. He had a lot of friends within his studies. He also was very friendly to his teachers too. I remember, once there was a wedding party of one of the techers. Ramzi was invited to the party. The wedding took place in the “Saadat Sarayi”. Ramzi made a speech within the wedding; unfortunately I cannot remember the teacher’s name to get the video. All the young people were sent to military service at the appropriate age. Ramzi also stopped his studies and was sent to service. He served for two years in the military unit near Moscow. And continued his education after the service…
– He again left his studies unfinished and went to Garabagh…
– Yes… At that period my little brother Fuad also studied at this university. The panic started I February of 1988. The horror started in all regions of Garabagh and in Lachin too. When the situation seemed so, my both brothers left their studies incomplete and returned to Lachin. My mother cried and begged… She said let your elder brothers go. But they said: “Let them look after you and our sisters”. I cannot forget Ramzi’s words up to date. He said so: “Mum, we can always continue our studies. However, if you miss your Motherland, there is no need for your diploma too. I cannot complete my education, leaving Lachin in lurch.
– What course was he in when left for fights?
– Fuad was a third and Ramzi was a fourth year students. Ramzi was a part-time student; eight months left after his marriage. He left incomplete his studies and family and went to protect the Motherland… He often came home when could… He asked mum as he came in, “is there anything to eat, let me take for my friends”…He was a commander of regimen named “Thorny field”. He felt as if was in charge of all the fighters. One day we were informed that Ramzi was killed… We, four sisters beat ourselves… But Mother did not believe, she said it is impossible. Stream of people took to the house to offer condolences for nine days, but my mother said my son will return… She canned compotes with the aim that Ramzi will take them to soldiers… Mother’s heart was not mistaken. It turns out that the contact was lost after they went for intelligence. It was impossible to define his location for already nine days; he also was not able to inform…
– And how did you know that he is alive?
– His warrior friends were coming constantly. One day he suddenly came in. He was terrible, beard covered his face. We felt as if were given the entire world. But soon the world was taken from us. Ramzi turned our life to darkness…
– How did you get the new about his death?
– Lachin already was occupied; our wings and arms were broken. We settled in Imishli to my father’s friends. We hoped that Ramzi and Fuad were fighting, this settlement and migration is temporary. On May 26 of 1992 father’s friend delivered the information that Ramzi’s leg was injured and he is in hospital in Aghjabadi. We went and saw that people gathered and understood that were deceived. In his 24 one day before, on May 25 Ramzi died heroically in the intense battles for the province Gulabirt of Lachin region. He had no address no land… The martyr had no home to send his coffin. Armenian destroyed everything. Therefore, his corpse was brought to Aghjabadi region. We buried him in Ovshar province of Aghjabadi region. Within the funeral, my mother tore her hair and was wailing that I entrust my baby here. She said I would take him to our land after the lands will be taken away. Three months left… As we understood that the liberation of lands is not real today and tomorrow, we took our brother’s body and buried it again in Beylagan… His young wife was studying in the University of Languages that time. She left the university after the incident. She was closed to home… Years passed, my mother asked her to build her life… But she did not listen to us… She was always lonely, getting older… Ramzi’s departure had taken the joy of our lives …
