Organization of the Summer Semester

The summer semester is conducted on a voluntary basis and fee-based. It is organized for the following purposes:

  • Elimination of academic deficiencies;
  • Earning credits for elective courses from the humanities section or other courses determined by the higher education institution, in accordance with course prerequisites;
  • Improving grades in courses where a satisfactory grade has already been achieved;
  • Enabling students from other higher education institutions to earn corresponding credits for specific courses offered by the institution.

The summer semester is organized after the completion of the spring semester, with the start date determined by the higher education institution. The duration of the summer semester (theoretical instruction and examinations) is six weeks. Examinations are held during the last week of the semester and must not exceed one week.

The total credit load for courses taken during the summer semester should not exceed 10 credits.

All examinations for the summer semester must be completed at least two weeks before the start of the next semester.

For students who, for valid reasons, were unable to participate in examinations, a one-time examination is organized before the start of the next semester.

In the case of courses where a satisfactory grade has been achieved during the regular examination session, students are not permitted to retake the examination to improve their grade. To achieve a higher grade, the student must re-enroll in the course during the summer semester and retake the examination. If the student fails to achieve a higher grade, their previously earned grade remains valid.

In accordance with relevant regulations, a student who has not been permitted to take an examination but has attended more than 50% of the prescribed classes for a course is eligible to take that course during the summer semester.

The cost per credit for courses taken during the summer semester is determined in accordance with relevant regulations.

The number of students in a course group during the summer semester is determined by the higher education institution, taking into account its financial capabilities.

Faculty members are voluntarily engaged in the summer semester. Their remuneration is calculated based on hourly rates. Additionally, faculty members receive extra payments from the funds generated by the course groups they teach, with the amount determined by the higher education institution.

Funds generated during the summer semester are also used, under the rector’s order, to pay the salaries of other staff involved in the semester.
