Meeting with the Participants of the Great Patriotic War held at ASUE
Event devoted to 70th Anniversary of the Victory over the fascism was jointly held by the School of Commerce and Faculty Trade Unions Organization of Azerbaijan State University on May 7.
Making an opening speech Dean of the School Miragha Ahmadov greeted the veterans and sincerely congratulated them on the occasion of the 70th Anniversary of the victory over the fascism. He spoke about the bravery and heroism performed by the Azerbaijan’s brave sons and daughters during the Great Patriotic War on the front and rear, the hard work of our people. He stressed that every Azerbaijani youth should know our history, they should realize the value of the victory gained by their grandfathers.
Head of the Department “Azerbaijan History”, Professor Hidayat Jafarov made a speech on “Azerbaijan during the years of the Great Patriotic War”. He pointed that, more than 600 thousands of young people from our country were called to army during the Great Patriotic War; more than half of them were killed or were missing. 121 of them were honored the title of the Hero of Soviet Union, 30 were awarded Order of Glory, 176 thousands of soldiers were awarded orders and medals. H. Orujov noted that Azerbaijan provided the Soviet army with 75 million tons of oil, 22 million tons of petrol and other products.
Veterans of war Ali Nasirov, Kazim Aghayev spoke about their memories; shared their impressions with the participants of the event on battles they went through to Berlin and the victory gained. They emphasized that their services are highly appreciated by our President Ilham Aliyev.
In the end veterans of war were presented gifts.
