Head of the Department of “Digital economy and ICT”, academician Abbasov Ali Mammad
He was born on January 1, 1953 in Nakhchivan city of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
He graduated from the Moscow Energy Institute in 1976 with a degree in Automation and Telemechanics. After working at the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences for about a year, he continued his postgraduate studies at the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. In 1981, he defended his thesis in the field of microelectronics and received the degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences. In 1994 he defended his dissertation on the specialty 05.13.14 – “Information processing and management systems” and was awarded the title of Doctor of Technical Sciences.
He has been a professor since 1996. He has been a full member of ANAS since 2001.
In 1982-1992 he worked in various positions at ANAS. In 1992-2000 he worked as the director of the Scientific Center of Information and Telecommunication of ANAS (now the Institute of Information Technologies).
In 2000-2004 he was the rector of the Azerbaijan State University of Economics. He is the President of the Azerbaijan Association of Computer Networks for Science and Education (AZRENA). He is the author and co-author of more than 180 scientific works and 18 scientific monographs and books. He has prepared 14 doctors of philosophy and 8 doctors of technical sciences.
In 2001-2004, he was MP of the Republic of Azerbaijan and a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). Since 2001, he is a full member of ANAS, a member of the Commission under the UN Secretary General for Broadband for Digital Development, the Institute of Electronics and Electrical Engineers.
In 2004-2014, he served as Minister of Communications and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
On December 27, 2012, he was awarded the Order of Glory by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, for his fruitful work in the field of information and communication technologies.
In May 2017, he was appointed an advisor of ANAS. He is the general director of the Institute of Control Systems of ANAS.
He is the head of the Department of Digital Technologies and Applied Informatics at UNEC.
