About department

“Azerbaijani language” subject was begun to be taught in the content of the Department of “Languages” as a “Foreign Language” and “Russian Language” since 30s of the last century. In 1996 Azerbaijani and Russian languages were separated from foreign languages and joined in a separate department. At that time, the Department of “Russian language” and “Azerbaijani language” was directed by Assoc. Prof. Jalil Ibrahimov (1966-1968), Assoc. Prof. Aisha Kazimova (1969-1972). In 1972 an independent department of “Azerbaijani language” was founded. In the years1972-1982, Can. of Phil. Assoc.Prof. Vali Mammadov served in the position of head of new department.

Later, the department was directed by an Assoc. Prof. Mammad Aliyev (1983-1987), Prof. Tofig Ahmadov (1990-1999), Prof. Habib Zarbaliyev (2000-2005). In different times Assoc. Prof. Elmira Jahangirova (1982-1983), Prof. Maarifa Hajiyeva (1987-1990), Vali Mammadov (1998-2000) worked in the position of acting Head of department. Since March of 2006 the Department of “Azerbaijani language” has been directed by a Dr. of Phil., Professor, Honored Art Figure Tofig Abdulhasanli.

The scientific-research works are conducted in the level of up-to-date requirements by the Department of “Azerbaijani Language. The phonetic, morphological, lexical and syntactic features of the Azerbaijani Language are being widely investigated in the scientific- research works carried out by the employees of the Department; the works are reviewed by the Institute of Linguistics named after I.Nasimi of ANAS every year. The administration of teaching the Azerbaijani Language, the ways to improve the quality of teaching process and the development of systemized approach methodology in teaching have been achieved within the studies. Various lesson facilities, approach methods and interactive systems were developed to increase the level of parallel learning of Azerbaijan and Turkish languages, including classical and modern literature; Scientific investigations were conducted in the direction of the application of modern information technologies in teaching State language to Russian groups, interesting results have been achieved.

The department continues to submit scientific consideration in different directions such as grammatical features and stylistic trends of Azerbaijan Language, the problems of teaching Azerbaijan grammar in the development of economist cadres, syntax of Azerbaijan language, modern approaches and scientific proposals.
