HISTORY OF THE FACULTY OF DIGITAL ECONOMY
In order to implement the decisions of UNEC’s Scientific Council from the online meetings dated May 31, 2020 (No. SC-172) and September 14, 2020 (No. SC-173), the Faculty of Technology and Design was dissolved on October 19, 2020, and restructured to establish the Faculty of Digital Economics. On the same date, the Department of Digital Technologies and Applied Informatics was created within the faculty.

About faculty
Initially established in February 1997, the Faculty has undergone various developments. The “Technology of Food Products” department has engaged in scientific collaboration with renowned higher education institutions across the CIS, such as Kyiv National University of Trade and Economics, Mogilev State University of Food Technologies, Kharkiv State Academy of Food Technology and Organization, and the Russian State University of Economics. The “Design” department has partnered with Turkey’s Gazi University, Ege University in Izmir, the Moscow State Academy of Design and Technology, Kyiv State University of Light Industry Technology, and the Azerbaijan Fashion Association. The “Technological Machines and Field Equipment” department maintains cooperative ties with REA’s “Machine Science” Institute, Ege University (Turkey), the Moscow University of Technology and Design, and the St. Petersburg University of Technology and Design.
Graduates of the faculty are qualified as engineers, technologists, and designers. They find opportunities in the public food system, resort trade establishments, the food industry, quality control laboratories, research facilities, and other sectors. Graduates who specialize in design are also prepared to work as creative artists, models, and designers in design bureaus, research laboratories, fashion houses, and similar organizations. Those who complete a master’s degree have the opportunity to pursue scientific-pedagogical careers.

In 2016, the Informatics specialty from the Faculty of Informatics and Management was incorporated into this faculty.
The Faculty of Informatics and Management was founded in 1972 at the Azerbaijan Institute of National Economy (named after D.Bunyadzada) under the title of General Economics. In 1988, it was renamed “Economics and Management of Production” and in 1992, it became “Informatics and Management.”
Over the years, this faculty has prepared highly qualified specialists in the following fields:
– Economic Cybernetics
– Economic Informatics and AIS
– Economics and Management of Production
– Information Technologies in World Economics.
The faculty has been led by prominent figures, including Prof. G. Sadigov (1972–1978), Assoc. Prof. S. Abdurrahmanov (1978–1982), Prof. B. Musayev (1982–1992), Assoc. Prof. S. Abdurrahmanov (1992–2001), Assoc. Prof. V. Ibrahimov (2001–2009), Ph.D. N. Mikayilov (2009–2016), and Prof. V. Huseynov (2016–2020).
