UNEC Hosts Event on International Day of Persons with Disabilities
An inclusive concert program titled “We Are One Family” dedicated to December 3 – the International Day of Persons with Disabilities was organized at the Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC).
The event, organized jointly by the UNEC Student Trade Union Committee, the UNEC Inclusive Center, and the We Are One Family Public Union for Supporting Persons with Disabilities, began with a tribute to the cherished memory of martyrs. The national anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was performed by individuals with hearing and speech impairments.
During the event, speeches were delivered by UNEC Vice-Rector for Student Affairs Associate Professor Saadat Gandilova, Head of the UNEC Inclusive Center Sevinj Mahsimova, Member of Parliament Vugar Iskandarov, and Director of the Youth Development and Career Center Azar Aliyev. They highlighted the care and attention given to individuals with varying degrees of disabilities in Azerbaijan, emphasizing the importance of supporting state policies in this area as a human value. The speakers noted the world’s need for humanitarian values and stressed that such events embody principles like social responsibility, compassion, and unity. They also underscored the positive outcomes of the care and support shown to individuals with disabilities in Azerbaijan, noting the opportunities available to showcase their talents and abilities.
The artistic segment of the event featured captivating musical performances and dances by artists, children, and youth with disabilities. Additionally, an exhibition fair of handicrafts created by individuals with disabilities was organized as part of the inclusive event.
At the conclusion of the event, participants were presented with certificates and gifts.
The event was held with the primary partnership of the Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC), the Youth Foundation of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Social Services Agency, the YAP Nizami District Organization, and “Gayo Group.” Organizational support was provided by the DOST Inclusive Development and Creativity Center, the Youth Development and Career Center, and the Young Volunteers Public Union. The main sponsor was the Asterias Training and Development Center, while the World Career and Professional Center and the Bella Brand acted as creative partners.
