Our Woman Rector – Bilgeyis Hashimzade
We introduce an interesting fact from the history of UNEC. For the first time in 1939, a woman was appointed rector of this higher education institution. She was the first Azerbaijani woman layer Bilgeyis Hashimzade
Bilgeyis Hashimzade was born in 1900 in Shaki. She was appointed a Director of the Azerbaijan Institute of the National Economy (current UNEC) in May of 1939. Although she was young, she played great role in the development of the different areas of the institute, such as training, scientific-research and so on. Bilgeyis khanum received the title of the Candidate of Law in 1946 and became an Associate Professor in 1950. She led the higher education institution beginning of 1941. She occupied the post of the Chairwoman of the Board of Layers of Azerbaijan SSR within 1941-1945. Later she worked at the Department of “Criminal Law” of Azerbaijan State University.
B. Hashimzade died in February of 1961.
