The next elections for Student-rector has been held at Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC). A first- year undergraduate student of the School of Turkic World of Business Administration Shahin Hasanov was elected UNEC’s new Student- rector.
The election for the yearly Student-rector is organized this year under the new rules. According to the rules, the candidates were determined by the faculty. 11 students on 11 faculties have nominated their candidacy. Students’ average success indicators, foreign language skills, social activity, participation in the local and international conferences were taken into account selecting the candidates for the Student- rector. The candidates presented their platform holding a series of meetings with their voters within the 14- day campaign. Interactive debates took place at the end of promotions.
Candidates have chosen the Students-rector among them by the open ballot voting. Members of the Election Commission and the candidates’ observers participated in the voting. Other candidates will become the members of the “Student Senate”. The elections were broadcast via the official Youtube Channel of UNEC.
It should be noted that the aim of project of Student- rector applied at UNEC for the first time in Azerbaijan is to create student self- management system, to develop transparent and efficient management mechanism, as well as the organization of relations between the students and the university administration based on the international experience. Student-rector takes part in the activities of the Academic Board and other structural units of UNEC, as well as in making discussions and decisions on the issues covering students’ interests as one of the governing bodies of the university with equal rights.
