On November 8 the presentation of “Republican Innovation Contest” jointly organized by the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbajan and the UN Representative Office in Azerbaijan took place at UNEC.

The director of UNEC Science and Innovations Center, professor Sakit Yaqubov noted that Azerbaijan had joined the UN Global Sustainable Development Goals    approved at Sustainable Development Summit of UN endoresed 2016-2030 agenda for Sustainable Development which connected the 17 sustainable development goals and 169 targets. He noted that, the objective was based covering the economical, social and ecological aspects of sustainable development on the UN Millennium Development Goal and defined the further development directions.  Yaqubov spoke about the complex measures taken at UNEC in this direction  and pointed out that , the work done was aimed at developing the science of economy and education and establishing the scientific center that could represent properly our country in the international arena.

Huseyn Huseynov, the head of the Department for the Sustainable Development  of the Ministry of  Economy, the chief of the Secretariat of the National Coordination Council for the Sustainable Development stated that the innovative contest had announced for promoting the goals of the UN endoresed 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development, and at the same time  for supporting the implementation of the  “Azerbaijan 2020: the Development Concept for View of the Future” and the “Strategic Road Map  on the Production of Consumer Goods at the level of Small and Medium-sized Enterprize” .  H.Huseynov said that the contest had organized for the students and researchers and holdng the first meeting at UNEC was not accidental. He pointed out that the economic scientific potential of the country is concentrated mainly at UNEC and this higher educational institution had a great role in formation of the economy of  Azerbaijan.

Jeyhun Salmanov, the head of the department for the Devolopment of the Electronic Services and Social  Innovations of the State Agency for Public Services and Social Innivations under the the Presient of the Azerbaijan Republic, emphasized the importance of innovations in terms of  contmporary deveopment trends in the world , ensuring the sustainable development of the economy, increasing the competitiveness and export potential and enhancing the environmental protection. He pointed out that, one of the important goals of the strategic documents adopted to ensure the sustainable development is the promotion of innovations.

In the event, Elnur İbrahimov, the expert in socio-economic issues of  Secretariat of the National Coordination Council for the Sustainable Development made the presentation on the purpose and the importance of the Republican Innovation Contest. He noted that, the competition was held on economic, social and environmental issues and gave detailed information to  UNEC students on the admission conditions and requirements.
