The meeting dedicated to the Independence of the State at UNEC
The meeting dedicated to the Independence of the Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan was held at UNEC. The event started with the performance of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The pro-rector for Administrative and Organizational Affairs of UNEC, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor Shaig Asgarov delivering the keynote speech, congratulated the participants on the occasion of Independence Day. Sh. Asgarov noted that, Azerbaijan had the opportunity to gain the independence and create its own sovereign state twice during one century. Unfortunately, the first opportunity was lost due to external interference, internal conflicts and lack of international support. The Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, founded in 1918, operated just only 23 months. The second historic opportunity came about 70 years later. The collapse of the Soviet empire allowed the Azerbaijani people to restore their national independence.
On October 18, in 1991, at the session of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan was adopted the “Constitutional Act on the State Independence of Azerbaijan”. Although the extraordinary session, which began on 8 October, discussed the matter for 4 days, the decision was adopted in a week. On December 29 of the same year, the nationwide voting was held and 95% of the population with voting rights participating in the referendum unanimously supported the state independence of our country. The states of the world recognized the independence of Azerbaijan. Turkey recognized first on December 9, 1991, and then Romania on December 11, Pakistan on December 13, Pakistan on December 23, Switzerland on December 23, December 25, Iran, on 23 January 1992 in the United States, on April 10, 1992 Russia and so on.
S.Asgarov noted that, today Azerbaijan had become one of the powerful states of the world both politically and economically. The political and economic pillars of our independence were being further strengthened under the leadership of our dear President Ilham Aliyev. According to the economic growth rates, our country has become a leader not only in the region, but also in the world.
As the continuation of the event, the participants of the meeting were shown a videoclip dedicated to the day of independence.
The chairman of the UNEC first territorial organization of the NAP (New Azerbaijan Part) in Sabail District, the Pro-rector for Economic Affairs Mikayil Zeynalov delivered the speech on the topic the “State Independence: yesterday, today and tomorrow”. He noted that the adoption of the Constitution Act on the Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan had taken place in very difficult conditions. But, now Azerbaijan confidently was stepping out in the path of democratic development.
Within the framework of the event, in the art section the member of the UNEC Creative Center, II year student of the Sabah Center, the student of the group 402 Jala Rzayeva’s reciting the poem “When saying Azerbaijan” by Tofig Bayram of the meeting was welcomed with great enthusiasm.
As the continuation of the meeting Nizami Suleymanov, the Professor of the Chair of Humanity Subjects, delivered the speech on the topic “October 18 is an important stage of our struggle for independence.”
In the end, the III year student of the “Economics” faculty, the student of group 123, Rashad Aslanov’s reciting the poem by Mammad Araz “Let – Motherland say!” was met with great interest.
