Contribution to demining from “MINAHACK” hackathon
The final event of the “MINAHACK” hackathon held in partnership with the Scientific Research Institute of the Ministry of Defense Industry and Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) took place at UNEC.
The purpose of the “MINAHACK” hackathon dedicated to the “Year of Heydar Aliyev” was to offer technological ideas and solutions for the rapid demining of the occupied economic regions of Azerbaijan and to clean the land from mines. 12 university teams and 9 teams from the scientific research institute participated in the 2-day hackathon.
Rector of UNEC, Professor Adalat Muradov stated that there is a need for new approaches and the application of modern technologies for demining Karabakh and expressed his confidence that it is the young people who can contribute to the solution of the problem: “The development of modern technologies allows us to sign the implementation of approaches that have not been applied until now. From this point of view, we trust our youth and I am sure that the solution to the problem will be provided by the youth.” A. Muradov emphasized the participation of Karabakh veterans and students of UNEC and other higher education institutions in the hackathon as a special moment.
Professor Mursal Aliyev, director of the Scientific Research İnstitute of the Ministry of Defense Industry, pointed out that the work related to the project will be continued, and cooperation with scientific research institutes of foreign countries will be carried out in this direction.
Chairman of the Management Board of “Bank of Baku” Yunus Amre Filizoglu said that the presented projects are for the sake of service to the Motherland and a better future.
After the speeches, the winning teams were announced. The winner of first place was the “Dianon radiometer” project. Using the device developed on the basis of the project, it will be possible to detect explosive substances contained in unexploded ammunition and mines placed in the area.
The winners received trophies, gifts, and cash prizes. Certificates were presented to other teams participating in the hackathon.
