Reforms will continue at UNEC

Extensive consultation related with the reforms held at Azerbaijan State University of Economics has taken place. Deans of the Faculties and Heads of the Departments made proposals expressing their attitude to the structural reforms. Broad discussions on the content of the newly established School of “Finance and Accounting” were held. Participants expressed there is a need to continue the measures of merging and reducing the number of faculties and departments. Proposals on synchronization with the management structure of the university and the faculties and the creation of the registration office were made. Also views on developing of the short- term program on Banking, making amendments on the curriculum and other issues were made during the meeting.

Generally the Academic Council’s decision on merging the Faculties and Chairs aiming to improve governance at UNEC within the “Quality Year” was assessed as a positive step by the participants of the meeting.

Rector, Professor Adalat Muradov noted that the serious reforms are being conducted at the university, saying the Faculty leaders’ and Department Directors’ proposals will be considered. He stressed that 2015/ 2016 academic year is announced the “Year of Quality” aiming to improve the quality of education at UNEC. The application of the e- university model has been started. Initially the teaching process of the main training building has entirely been digitalized in accordance with the project. Information about the students, teaching staff, alumni, time- tables, groups on disciplines, calendar and thematic plans of the subjects students’ individual syllabuses were entered in the system’s database. Student and teaching staffs’ individual cabinet and examination system sections were also set up in the system. E- grandstands with the access to the system were installed in the lecture rooms. Rector pointed the paper journals to have been replaced with e- journals. Instructors will be able to check students’ attendance, to enter students’ seminar scores, titles and other notes in an electronic way.

Rector noted that the structural changes in accordance with the reforms held aim to separate the academic affairs’ organization from the administrational, concentrate the administrative burden in deaneries, assign the organization of academic affairs to departments and improve the responsibility of departments for the training and qualifications.

Rector also emphasized the establishment of several institutes to be planned to operate under the university. Further structural reforms will be taken seriously ,to this end.
