UNEC hosts a Conference held in the format of UN “ECOSOC” Model for the first time
A Conference on United Nations “ECOSOC” (Economic and Social Council) Model was held at Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC) on November 28. The Conference aims to get students majoring in Diplomacy and International Relations in Azerbaijan acquainted with the working principles of UN and to contribute to the development of future diplomats. Students have investigated on the topic given in advance and studied the economy, history and political relations of the country they assigned.
About 50 native and overseas students from 7 higher education institutions of Azerbaijan participated in the conference organized by “UNEC Model UN” Club and jointly supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan State University of Economics. Discussions on “Sustainable Use of Natural Resources” were made during the conference devoted to the adoption of the UN Program “Sustainable Development Goals”.
Deputy Minister of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan Firudin Gurbanov, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Intigam Babayev, Chairman of the State Recruitment Service under the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population Anar Badalbayli, the UN Development Program Advisor for Strategic Cooperation Mazahir Efendiyev and Rector of Azerbaijan State University of Economics, Professor Adalat Muradov made speeches during the official opening. The guests spoke about the significance of the event and its contribution to youth. It was stressed that the kind of conferences will positively impact to increase the students’ worldview and to improve their interest in scientific debates.
Afterwards the speeches by the “delegations” of the countries were made during the simulation conference. Students made proposals on efficient utilization of natural resources on countries. The students representing the oil exporting counties proposed to develop a global program for the utilization of natural resources. A certain “road map” for the global energy supply and security policy formation was also determined.
The participants conducted debates around the theme in accordance with the format of the conference. As a result of the issue “Sustainable Use of Natural Resources” the resolution was adopted by the participants.
The participants will be awarded certificates in the closing ceremony of the two- day conference. The best 4 representatives will be awarded with the prize “the best representation” of the conference.
