The last session in 2015/2016 academic year of the Scientific Board of Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC) has been held on July 14.
Firstly two new members of Scientific Board- newly elected student rector of UNEC Shahin Hasanov and Chairman of the Student Scientific Society (SSS) Avazagha Malikov were introduced to participants. UNEC’s rector, Professor Adalat Muradov noted there is a need for taking measures to improve student rector’s performance. Speaking about SSS’s future Rector said that UNEC should be the center of intellectual competitions on Economic Studies. A.Muradov gave his instructions on starting preparations to republic Olympiad beginning from the new academic year.
Director of the Internship and Recruitment Department of UNEC Fuad Aliyev made a report on “The totals of IV year full-time and V year part-time undergraduate students’ pre-graduation internship and III year undergraduates’ summer internship”. He said 2957 IV year full-time students and 756 V year part-time students were sent to be interns. To facilitate prompt and effective organization of experience the practice premises were determined and treated with a number of organizations, as well as Pasha Life Insurance, Khalg Insurance, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population, Ministry of Communication and High Technologies, Ministry of Finance, Chamber of Accounts, State Statistics Committee and many others. At the same time UNEC students were sent to the internship abroad. To get internship in different structural units of UNEC is also available for students.
F.Aliyev introduced the list of the Departments organized the best internship and new practice premises. These are the Departments Finance and Financial Institutions, Business Administration, Economy of Labor, Protection and Economy of Environment, Regulation of Economy, Economy of Enterprise, Marketing, International Economics, Design, Standardization and Certification, Economic Law, International Economics (English), International Economic Relations and Informatics. F. Aliyev said there were no complaints on these departments by the students.
F.Aliyev emphasized that the complaints received on other departments from the students were investigated appropriate measures were taken promptly.
Mentioning about the summer internship of the III year students it was said that 3126 undergraduates on 28 majors are to be sent to practice. To organize the students’ industrial experience in a more organized form and to solve the problems operatively he proposed to open “The hotline on Summer Internship” (146-1-3) and announce about it on UNEC’s official webpage and Facebook. Rector A.Muradov instructed the relevant body on immediate execution of the proposal.
Speaking about UNEC Rector’s meeting with the students who were dissatisfied with the organization of internship, F.Aliyev drew to attention the discussion of cases of subjectivism, additional bureaucratic requirements, red tape, nomination of unnecessary and unavailable requirements in preparing experience statements and indifferent attitude to them: “Rector has given strong instructions to the Internship and Recruitment Department for transparent and operative solution of appeals to the Internship and Recruitment Department. The Board members suggested organizing meetings with representatives of practice premises, to hold trainings for practice managers, to reconsider the issue of the evaluation of students sent to practice, to hold internship in our regions and to offer the assessment of the students for the results of internship by the recruiter. The proposals were highly assessed.
Rector Adalat Muradov noted that he had met with the students complaining about the organization of internship via Facebook profile and gave instructions on investigating the task urgently. A.Muradov said the shortcomings have been identified and serious measures will be taken in this field. Rector instructed the Internship and Recruitment Department on the preparation of report about the students who could not complete their experience. He associated the low level of the quality of internship with the lack of coordination between the departments and Deans’ offices. Rector tasked Heads of Departments to visit the practice venues regularly and hear the students’ requests. The relevant structures were instructed to organize Rector’s meeting with practice supervisors before the start of experience.
Thus, members of Academic Board considered unsatisfactory the report submitted by the Head Internship and Recruitment Department Fuad Aliyev. The decision on depriving Fuad Aliyev from the Organization of Internship has been made.
UNEC’s Scientific Secretary, Professor Elnur Sadigov informed the participants of the session about the execution of the decisions made by UNEC Academic Board within 2015/2015 academic year. He said 76 decisions were made by the Academic Board within the year and 73 of them were executed successfully. 3 are under execution. He proposed to inform the Board members about the implementation of decisions made before on each session.
Discussion of current issues started later. The Regulation about the commission established under the Academic Board and the content of commission were discussed in the session. It was proposed to discus the issues to be included into the Academic Board’s agenda on the relevant commissions. The Regulation on the Commissions and their content were voted and adopted.
The Board members also suggested to make amendments in the Charter of UNEC’s Zagatala branch. The structure of the branch was approved by the Board members.
Director of “UNEC Business School” Nazim Hajiyev has delivered detailed information about standards prepared on 5 new majors of MBA for top managers. It was said that the curriculum complying the international standards in Banking and Management of Insurance, Health Management, Sports Management, Tourism and Hotel Management and Engineering and Risks of Management were prepared. In addition, the second new program “Executive MBA” has been established in the School of Business. The curriculum is here aligned with the curriculum of the world’s leading universities. The new standards in majors of the “UNEC School of Business” were discussed and adopted during the session.
It was informed in the session that the Associated Professors with the age more than 70 will be paid a year’s payroll in case of their retirement voluntarily. They should submit their requests until September 15. The Heads of the Faculties were instructed on ensuring the information about.
It was also noted that 512 undergraduate students could not finish the IV course in accordance with the results of summer exam session. The Board members made a decision on providing I, II and III year students with 1 and 2 who failed the exam. But the IV year students will be provided with 5 points. The Board members welcomed the proposal on providing 14 students with 5 points failed the exam. The other students were said to be provided with a chance of taking the exam once more. This way the experience of students’ provision with additional points will be stopped.
The Board members were informed that the acting Dean of the newly established Faculty of Economics is the Associated Professor Asiman Guliyev. And the Associated Professor Mansur Barkhudarov was appointed the Head of the “Russian School of Economics”. M.Barkhudarov was instructed to develop proposals on the organization of training at the “Russian School of Economics” meeting modern requirements.
The decision on establishing the School of “Business and Management” merging the Faculties of “Business Administration”, “Commerce” and “Informatics and Management” was also made in the session. Debates on institutionalization of faculties in the future were made and proposals were heard within the event.
The decision on submitting honorary diplomas and awards to 5 employees of every faculty was made in the session. At the same time, appropriate instructions on creating the enabling environment for the summer holidays of academic staff and employees at Guba training, sports and health complex have been heard.
