The “Economy and Management of Agro-Industrial Enterprises” chair, being a relatively new chair has been operating since 1993. Since its establishment, the chair began to the large-scale scientific-pedagogical activity and become one of the leading chairs of the University in a short period.
From the date of establishment until 2008 (1993-2008) the chair was headed by doctor of economics, professor, honored scientist Abulfaz Gasimov. Currently the chair is headed by doctor of economics, professor, active member of the New York Academy of Sciences, Islam Garayev.
Following the initiative of the chair, “The agrarian relations in foreign countries”, “ Food security”, “ Agro-business and regional infrastructure”, “ The management of production resources”, “Soil contamination resources” and other new subjects are being taught at bachelor and master degrees, as well the curriculum of these subjects has been compiled. More than 10 subject programs for bachelor and master degrees have been prepared during recent two years. For example, “The investment and innovation policy in agrarian field”, “Regional economy policy and rural social-economic development”, “The agrarian policy of foreign countries and development practice of agriculture”, “Modern technology of food production and processing”, “Soil contamination resources and protection methods”, “ The economy and management of agrarian field”, “The economy of agribusiness and its organization”, “The management of production resources”, “ The economy and management of agro-industrial complex”, “Agrarian policy and development spheres of regions’ economy” programs are of same kind.
The scientific-research work “The acceleration problems of socio-economic development of regions of the Republic of Azerbaijan” was conducted and key essential theoretical and practical proposals were suggested in this chair and currently works in this direction are ongoing.
At the same time, the chair increased attention to the preparation of high-quality textbooks and school supplies. Published “The economy of agro-industrial complex”, “The economy and management of agro-industrial enterprises” and “Agricultural economy” textbooks are prepared according to the modern standards.
Actually, “The economy and management of agro-industrial enterprises” chair training high qualified staff for essential spheres of Azerbaijan’s Economy science, is considered to be active chair in the formulation of agrarian economic policy and strategy, learning legal conformity of development and tendencies.
