The participants of the event first visited the grave of the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev in the Alley of Honor, laid wreaths and flowers in front of it, and paid respect to the dear memory of the Great Leader.
The opening of the conference organized at UNEC was attended by the Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mukhtar Babayev, Chairman of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora Fuad Muradov, the rector of UNEC Professor Adalat Muradov, heads of state institutions, rectors, as well as scientists from different countries of the world and friends of the jubilee.
The rector Professor Adalat Muradov, who delivered the opening speech, welcomed the participants and called the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the world-famous Azerbaijani scientist Messoud Efendiyev at UNEC a remarkable event. He said that the scientist who loves his country and people has a special place in the hearts of those who know him and that every Azerbaijani is proud of Messoud teacher’s contributions to the field of mathematics and his achievements.
The Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev congratulated Messoud Efendiyev on his 70th anniversary and wished him continued success. Emphasizing the importance of celebrating his anniversary in his native country, the minister noted that this step is important in terms of instilling a sense of patriotism in the young generation.
Chairman of the Diaspora Committee, Fuad Muradov, pointed out that Professor Messoud Efendiyev, despite living in Germany for many years, always worked for the development of his homeland and people. He emphasized that the awarding of the scientist with the honorary title of Honored Scientist for his services in the development of the Azerbaijani diaspora is one of the most obvious examples of this. Speaking about the scientist’s scientific activity, the chairman of the committee also spoke about his achievements in mathematics.
The conference continued with the speeches of the director of Canada’s Fields Institute, prof. Dr. Khumar Murtu, the former Minister of Science and Education of Georgia, prof. Mikhail Ckhenkeli, the rector of Toronto International Business University, prof. Feridun Hamdullahpour, Nobel laureate in chemistry Ariel Varshelin, who joined the event online, professor Roald Saghdeyev, Dr. Steffen Mehlich, the head of the Sponsorship and Networking Department of Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The speakers spoke about the scientist’s research achievements and his services to the community of mathematicians. They said that Prof. Messoud Efendiyev is one of the few mathematical scientists in the world who has the status of “Dean’s Distinguished Professor”. Nobel laureates and world-renowned scientists who have achieved fundamental scientific results in their fields carry this status. It was pointed out that the world-famous Azerbaijani scientist was also awarded the lifetime award for research in the field of mathematical sciences by the Fields Institute operating in Canada.
Professor Messoud Efendiyev thanked the speakers for the attention and kind words addressed to him.
The conference will continue until October 26 with panel discussions on various fields of science with the participation of scientists from different countries of the world.
