A meeting was held by UNEC, Ganja State University, Azerbaijan State Agrarian University, Mingachevir State University, and Azerbaijan University of Technology to sign the Memorandum of Understanding on holding the Ganja Green Economy Forum every year.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture Ilhama Gadimova, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Vugar Karimov, Chief Advisor of the Secretariat of the First Vice President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadov, Head of the Department of Sustainable Development and Social Policy of the Ministry of Economy Huseyn Huseynov, Rector of UNEC Professor Adalat Muradov, Rector of GSU Professor Yusif Yusibov, MP, Vice Rector of GSU, Associate Professor Parvin Karimzade, Rector of ASAU Associate Professor Zafar Gurbanov, Rector of MSU Associate Professor Shahin Bayramov and Acting Rector of ATU, Associate Professor Yashar Omarov made a speech at the online meeting.
In the meeting moderated by Elmar Mammadov, chief adviser of the Secretariat of the First Vice President, the participants said that the main goal of this initiative, which will be implemented for the first time in Azerbaijan, is the fight against climate change, the transition to a green economy, the study of the world experience on green growth, as well as the development of human capital in this direction, the conduct of scientific research by the academic staff and the students, the creation of green start-ups, ” They said that it is to contribute to the development of “green” sectors, the promotion of public-private “green” partnership, the development of international cooperation, as well as contributing to the work of defining a “smart green transition”.The speakers pointed out that the forum was held in the city of Ganja by chance, that the first green city project was implemented in Ganja by the order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev, and that the city successfully participated in the green cities program of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
The participants emphasized the importance of declaring 2024 as the “Year of Solidarity for the Green World” in the country by the order of President Ilham Aliyev, and noted that the first forum to be held will be organized within that framework. They said that the Ganja Green Economy Forum will start its work on June 5 – the World Environment Day and will be held annually on June 5-7 in Ganja. Other universities of our country will also be able to join the membership of the Forum.
Then, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the heads of 5 partner universities with a total student population of nearly 40,000 to realize the project.
