The event dedicated to the  29th anniversary of the January 20 events jointly organized by Media Group “SES” (“VOICE”) was held at UNEC.

The event started with the visit of the rector, professor Adalat Muradov, the head of the Media Group “SES” Bahruz Guliyev, the Executive Director of the Fund for Religious Values under the subordination of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations, Mehman Ismayilov and with the participation of the members of the families of martyrs to the UNEC Memorial Complex.

During the opening ceremony of the ongoing event with the participation of UNEC academic-teaching staff, and the students the memory of the Martyrs, who had lost their lives for the motherland was commemorated with a minute of silence. The film “20th January: Freedom Era”, prepared by the “SES” Media Group, once again brought the event participants back to the tragic events that had taken place. The film talked about the massacre committed by the Soviet regime against civilians and the attempt to destroy the desire of people of independence and could not break down our national dignity. During the events organized by the Soviet regime, which executed shooting of the innocent people, the inability of the Azerbaijan’s leader of that time once more became apparent. It was during this great time that the national leader of our people, Heydar Aliyev, came to the Azerbaijani representation in Moscow, accused the aggressor, raised the voice of protest and demanded immediate withdrawal of troops from Baku. The decisive step of the great leader was the first political assessment given to the events of January 20. After returning with the insistent demand of the people, of Heydar Aliyev to the power the Bloody January events were politically assessed in the country. On the instruction of the great leader the Memorial Complex was constructed in the Alley of Martyrs, the 20th January was set as the national mourning day; the Martyrs’ families were taken care by the state. The UNEC Rector Prof. Adalat Muradov made a speech after the demonstration of the film. Stressing that the memory of the martyrs was continuously commemorated at the UNEC, the rector assessed being the students of the Azerbaijan State Economic University among martyrs, as the source of pride of the university.

The Rector noted that, January 20th was not only the Day of National Mourning, as well as the history of our people, who fought for the independence of Azerbaijan, as a day of unity and honor. Noting that the memory of the martyrs is eternal, the rector said that every citizen of Azerbaijan was indebted to them. Noting that the souls of the martyrs would not be comfortable while our lands were continued to be under the occupation of the enemy, the rector expressed his confidence that our lands would be liberated in the result of the decisive and far-sighted policy of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

The Executive Director of the Fund for Religious Values under the subordination of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations, Mehman Ismayilov emphasized that martyrdom is a different,  special value. Speaking about the importance of the word “martyrdom”, the guest said that the events of January 20th were also the symbol of the rebirth of the people. Noting the necessity of propagation of this aspect among the younger generation, M.Ismayilov invited all young people to embark on these activities.

The head of Media Group “SES” (“VOICE”) Bahruz Guliyev said that, the events of January 20th had visible and invisible aspects.  The collapse of the Soviet regime and the cession of Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia in the 1980s caused the national protests to turn into a movement in Azerbaijan. Although this path brought us to independence, it was at the cost of the blood of the people. Despite pressure on the Nationwide leader, he came to the Azerbaijani representation in Moscow and expressed his objection, and the people demanded the Great Leader to be brought to power. Stating that Heydar Aliyev’s policy is still being continued in the country, the guest spoke about the state’s support for Martyrs’ families, the role of the human factor in the country, and the people’s loyalty to President Ilham Aliyev.

In the event, Yaver Abilhasanov, the brother of martyr Ilgar Abilhasanov said that, every year on January 20th the memory of the Bloody January victims were commemorated in the country. Noting that Bloody January massacre had occurred due to the indecisiveness of then existing leader of Azerbaijan , Y. Abilhasanov said that no criminal case had been revealed by the then existing leader leaders of the country at the time of the events and the investigation had not  been conducted.

At the end of the event, Rashad Aslanov, the student of the Faculty of Economics, recited the poem “Martyrs” written by Bakhtiyar Hajizadeh  “.
