Academic staff and students of UNEC visited the monument erected to the memory of the Turkish soldiers in the territory of Shamakhi-Maraza on the occasion of May 28 – Republic Day.
A teacher of the Department “Standardization and Certification” Ilgar Rajabov said the Monument that became a symbol of Turkey-Azerbaijan fraternity was erected in 2000 to the memory of 1130 Turkish soldiers who died in the battles for the liberation of Baku from Bolshevik- dashnak forces in 1918 by the National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s instruction. The Caucasian Islamic Army led by the Great Turkish Commander Nuru Pasha released Baku from Armenian-Bolshevik occupation with the help of the national voluntary groups. Azerbaijan Democratic Republic ensures its power all over the country within this victory, at the same time, it prevented the massacre of Azerbaijani civilians. Names and surnames of the Turkish soldiers who sacrificed their lives for Azerbaijan’s freedom were engraved on the inscription of the monument.
The Great Leader Heydar Aliyev and former President of the Republic of Turkey Suleyman Demirel participated in the official opening of the monument.
