“Khojali Week” starts

“Khojali Week” has been launched at UNEC on the eve of the 25th Anniversary of Khojali Genocide

Event dedicated to the topic “The Khojali tragedy is the most terrible genocide in the world” was held in UNEC Faculty of Business and Management on February 20. The Public Union for Promotion of Khojali Genbocide, Garabagh War invalids, Khojali residents and members of martyr families attended the event.

Dean of the Faculty, Associate Professor Miragha Ahmadov spoke about the massacre committed by the Armenians in Khojali. He said Khojali genocide has been recognized by many countries and international organizations for a short period of time. Currently, important steps are being taken towards promoting Khojali realities and its recognition as the act of genocide by the state bodies and our compatriots under the leadership of the President Ilham Aliyev. M.Ahmadov provided the participants with the information about the promotional campaigns and projects implemented by the President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva and the Vice-President of the Foundation Leyla Aliyeva’s initiative in the direction of recognition of massacre in the international arena.

Chairman of the Public Union for the Promotion of Khojali Genocide Shamil Sabiroghlu said that Armenian aggressors inflicted reprisals to peaceful citizens on the night of massacre, they killed 613 residents of Khojali, 8 families were destroyed completely, 25 children lost both parents and 1275 people were captured.

Then the witnesses of the incident spoke about the horrors of the tragedy they saw. They talked about the brutal acts committed especially against the old people, children and women.

A Professor of the Department of Humanitarian Subjects Vakil Hasanov pointed that the first lessons are usually dedicated to Khojali on the eve of the genocide every year. He highlighted that Armenians have been pursuing a policy of genocide against Azerbaijanis for centuries.

An exhibition of paintings devoted to Khojali and a documentary film “My Soul is from Garabagh” directed by the Head of UNEC Creativity Center Elman Jafarov were demonstrated in the end.
