A citizen of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Ali Mansoor Al Rahman, is currently pursuing a degree in International Trade and Logistics at the International School of Economics (ISE) of Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC). In an interview with UNEC News, Ali Mansoor shared his insights regarding the educational experience, student life at UNEC, and his impressions of Azerbaijan.

– Ali Mansoor, what motivated you to choose UNEC for your studies?

– I initially commenced my undergraduate education at Bahrain Polytechnic University, specializing in Business and Management. However, upon observing that the curriculum was predominantly theory-based, I resolved to continue my education abroad. After conducting thorough research on leading economics-oriented universities in Turkey and Azerbaijan, I found that UNEC’s admission process for international students was particularly suitable for my circumstances. Naturally, I also took into consideration the university’s academic process, international rankings, and infrastructure. Acknowledging UNEC’s status as the largest economics-oriented university in the region, its presence in international rankings, and its comprehensive combination of theoretical and practical approaches, I ultimately decided to pursue my studies at UNEC. I was admitted to the university in 2022 and am presently enrolled as a fourth-year student.

– What notable differences have you observed since commencing your studies at UNEC?

– The integration of both theoretical and practical approaches in UNEC’s academic curriculum has proven to be highly advantageous. The primary reason I discontinued my studies in Bahrain was the emphasis on theoretical instruction. At UNEC, the balance between theory and practice has significantly enhanced my academic experience.

– Could you share your impressions of the examination process?

– I must candidly state that the examination process at UNEC is one of the aspects I appreciate most. It is exceptionally well-structured, incorporating both written and test-based assessments. I particularly value the fact that examinations for specialized subjects are conducted in a written format. Personally, I prefer written examinations as they provide an opportunity to contemplate the questions in depth and present comprehensive, well-articulated responses. This format not only evaluates theoretical knowledge but also encompasses practical applications, which I find highly beneficial.

– How would you assess the teaching methods employed by your professors?

– I am thoroughly satisfied with the pedagogical approaches adopted by my professors. Beyond delivering lectures, they actively support the personal and academic development of their students. The instructional process is not confined to theoretical concepts; professors frequently illustrate the material with real-life examples, rendering the lessons more practical and engaging. Their guidance, advice, and mentorship have played a pivotal role in my academic progress.

– How would you describe your relationships with your fellow students?

– My fellow students are highly motivated and intellectually stimulating individuals. Studying alongside peers from diverse cultural backgrounds has been an enriching and rewarding experience. We provide mutual support both academically and socially, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment. This setting not only facilitates my educational development but also enables me to establish enduring friendships. Overall, the student life at UNEC constitutes a crucial phase in my professional and personal growth.

– Did you encounter any challenges in adapting to life in Azerbaijan?

– Azerbaijan is a dynamic and hospitable country, and adapting to life here was not particularly challenging. I acclimatized to the environment relatively quickly. The country offers extensive opportunities for young individuals, both in terms of career advancement and social engagement. The local community is remarkably open and welcoming, which greatly facilitated my integration into the new environment. Moreover, Azerbaijan’s rich cultural heritage and the people’s deep-rooted connection to their traditions have provided me with the opportunity to explore a vibrant and diverse culture. My overall impressions of Azerbaijan, particularly in terms of education, culture, and social life, have been exceedingly positive.

– What are your future aspirations? Do you intend to pursue postgraduate studies?

– At this stage, I do not intend to pursue a master’s degree, as I am already 25 years old and wish to focus on establishing my personal life and advancing my career. Upon completing my undergraduate studies, I plan to relocate to Dubai to pursue professional opportunities. In comparison to Bahrain, I believe that Dubai offers more advantageous prospects for my career aspirations.
