III International scientific-practical conference on “Digital economy: Modern challenges and real opportunities” has been held at UNEC.

The conference was attended by the Deputy Minister of Economy Samad Bashirli, the Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Samir Mammadov, the General Director of the Institute of Information Technologies of MSE  Academician Rasim Aliguliyev, the director of the Centre for analysis and coordination of the Fourth industrual Revolution, Fariz Jafarov, the  director general of the  institute of Control  Systems  of MSE,  Academician Ali Abbasov, the rector prof. Adalat Muradov, MPs, public representatives and other guests.

Before the event, the participants laid flowers in front of the bust of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev and expressed their respect to the dear memory of the national leader.

The Rector of UNEC Professor Adalat Muradov welcomed the participants of the conference and said that, traditionally, at the annual conference, topical issues related to digital economy and digitalization of higher education are discussed. Emphasizing the necessity and inevitability of digitalization of higher education, the rector pointed out that UNEC has become a digital university. He said that since the last academic year, the subjects have been taught using adaptive, flipped educational methods based on the skills of the 21st century, and the application of innovations in this direction were  being  continuing.

The rector said that the lack of open discussions on the digitization of higher education created conditions for the creation of misconceptions in the society and emphasized the importance of discussing educational issues with interested parties. A. Muradov said that he sees the new model of higher education in the transition to digital skills, adaptive and flipped education method, 21st century skills and project-based education.

Deputy Minister of Economy Samad Bashirli spoke about the tasks ahead and the positive results to be achieved in the direction of the transition to the digital economy. The deputy minister said that Azerbaijan’s next-generation economy strategy is being prepared in order to ensure sustainable development in the country, and said that this strategy will create a broad basis for strengthening business transformation and the creation of model enterprises and technocenters that envisage the wide application of the Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies. He expressed confidence that the conference will make important contributions to the formation of the digital economy environment in the country.

Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Samir Mammadov spoke about global trends in the field of digital economy, the duties of state institutions in this direction, as well as the activities of innovation centers created in higher education institutions. He said that with the support of the agency, more than 20 start-ups contributing to the ecosystem were created by UNEC students and graduates in 2023-2024. Currently, UNEC is the university with the most active innovation activity.

The executive director of Fourth Industrial Revolution, Fariz Jafarov, spoke at the conference about the positive impact of digitalization on economic processes, trends in management, service provision, and application of modern technologies in everyday life. At the same time, he shared his views on the impact of the technologies of the fourth industrial revolution on people’s education and learning behavior, payment methods, general information exchange, as well as the use of public services.

Academician Rasim Aliguliyev, the general director of the Institute of Information Technologies of MSE, called the conference a National Summit that brings together various institutions of the country and is of great importance in the digital economy, responding to global challenges, as well as supporting the state policy of the country. The academician talked about the innovations brought by the 4th industrial revolution, the positive and negative effects of artificial intelligence in the context of technological challenges. He stressed the importance of preparing complex programs based on scientific theoretical knowledge related to the formation and development of the digital economy.

Academician Ali Abbasov, the general director of the Institute of Control Systems of MSE, spoke about the impact of artificial intelligence on the digital economy, the problems arising in this direction and ways to solve them.

The conference continued with plenary sessions.
