Mirdamad Sadigov began his career in 1971 at the department of  “Finance and Credit” of   Azerbaijan Institute of National Economy (now UNEC).

From 1971 to 1972 he worked as a senior referent  at the department, from 1972 to 1977 as a laboratory assistant and senior laboratory assistant. In 1973-1977 he studied at the graduate school of the same department and defended his dissertation in Moscow, where he was awarded the title of Candidate of Economic Sciences.

In 1977-1982 he was the secretary of the Komsomol   Committee of   Azerbaijan Institute of National Economy.  Later, he worked as a senior lecturer at the department of   “Finance and Credit” and dean of the Faculty of Economics. During this period, he was elected associate professor of the department through a competition. In 1988-1992, he was the director of the Baku Financial and Credit College, and in 1992-1999, he was the director of the college in connection with the transformation of the college into Azerbaijan College of Finance and Economics.

M.Sadigov is a member of   New Azerbaijan Party. He is the executive director of Heydar Aliyev School of Economic Management, firstly established in Azerbaijan for  since 1996.

In 1999-2000 he was the head of the Tax Department of Nasimi district of Baku. In 2000-2007 he was the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of Azerbaijan State University of Economics. In 2004, he defended his doctoral dissertation on “Problems of formation of the financial potential of the Republic of Azerbaijan” and was one of the first people in Azerbaijan to receive academic title of doctor  in this field. In 2007-2008, he worked as the head of the Main Department of the Center for Strategic Studies of Tax Policy and Tax Legislation of the Ministry of Taxes. In 2008-2013 he was the rector of  Azerbaijan State Agrarian University.

From February 14, 2013 to March 5, 2020 he was the head of the Executive Power of Ismayilli region.

Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Mirdamad Sadigov is the author of more than 200 scientific articles on economic, financial and tax problems in the country, as well as 10 textbooks, 8 manuals and 9 monographs.

He is a member of the Club of Rectors of European Universities.

In April 2020, he was appointed   Vice-Rector for Strategic Development of UNEC.

He died on January 19, 2021.
